What fun we had with Now 50, which Kylie won at a canter, though with decent shouts from Britney and Bouncy. Kylie takes her place next to S Club in the pop and poll hall of fame. Sadly I have to report that Now 51 is less obviously glittering, though obviously your mileage may wobble. Some definite highlights though as we slide gently into 2002. And big hellos to Daniel Bedroomeyes, Christina Milian and...Nickelback!

isn't it 'Fly By II'? but then what is 'Fly By I'

presumably II is just the single mix of the album version?

It's funny how these polls are working on my brain. I actually went and found "Fly By" on Monday, having not heard it in years (and wanting to test my theory that disposable pop is virtually impossible to find on s!sk). "Fly By II" is what I came up with, and it is also the one with Simonn doing that "quasi-rap" that is so embarrassing that's it's perfect. It must be "Fly By I" that has Biggie.

Blue had those harmonies and irresistably fluid melodies -- of the boy bands, somehow only they and the Backstreets managed to produce consistently: The Boys on theside power-pop and Blue, more urban.

I hated a lot of Murder Inc. stuff but agree with byebyepride. 'ALways On Time' is probably the best record to come out of that stable. Ashanti's 'Happy' would be second.

Agreed on both - Ashanti is one r&b diva I will not rep for (until she got bizarrely good last year out of the blue with 'Only U'), all the traditional boring criticisms of r&b girls (bland, generic etc) are all TRUE for her!

'Fly By II' is funny and great, the equal of 'All Rise' I think. Blue's peak came with 'Bubblin' though!

i disagree because i do actually like Ashanti's voice - a sultry warmth compared to Aaliyah's brittle coolness.

i think i said this before but Milian wins cos she's right in the middle of the two of them :)

wasn't there a rumour that in the earlier J.Lo / Ja Rule songs they mixed Ashanti's vocals 50-50 with J.Lo so that when they launched her people would be like "Oh, she's nice and familiar!"

I thought the rumour was that Ashanti WAS the vocalist on early J-Lo and suddenly when she got big and wasn't available to do ghost vocals J-Lo had to 'change' her 'style' (cue 'Jenny From The Block' aka her BEST SONG!)

One good thing about 'fly by' and 'all rise' is that you can sing them both to the tune of the other and it is fun.

I can't tell the difference either. If Fly By is in fact "System up with the top down / Got the city on lockdown" then I should go back and change my vote.
