Now 45 is - appropriately - the biggest now ever, with 45 45s, BLIMEY DO YOU SEE, anyway this means that for once we have no room for the "BUM MORE LIKE" no-ticks-here options. And do you know what? You won't be needing them anyway! This Now has the first appearances of Craig David, Atomic Kitten, Daphne And Celeste, Kelis....and Kevin and Perry. It's a new millennium and pop rules o'er all - get your ticky fingers ready...

Now 44? Britney walked it.

It's a kind of dance music, m'lud.

Precious = can't remember tune exactly right now but some lyrics would probably ring a bell; I have promo single at home, I do remember that it is 'Baby One More Time' copyism ie brilliant (I suspect Fierce is the same)

SO. MUCH. GOODNESS.

TS: 'Rise' through to 'Show Me The Meaning...' vs 'Toca's Miracle' to 'Moving Too Fast'

Lock N Load: big eardrum slitting violent trance track. Pretty great.

TRANCE

Is it the best musical genre of the past 25 years?

THE BEGINNING OF SEVERAL NEW ERAS!

-The Golden Age of R&B (Kelis!)
-2-step holding the charts to ransom (Artful Dodger!)
-'Baby One More Time' has USHERED IN THE MAX MARTIN POP (about half the album!)

That would be Grime which I'd probably call UK Garage. Just to be extra muso-tiny-genre-annoying. (or jungle or maybe dubstep.)

Fierce is a boshed up version of Anita Baker.

I think this will be a fight between D&C and Kelis. A worthy context indeed.

it feels like...a CORNER has been turned into DAZZLING SUNLIGHT, and the poptimists community is now BASKING IN THE WARMTH

Who'd have thought at the time that "All The Small Things" would go on to change Pop more than any other song on this album? Hmmm? Did you?

There's another VERY SIGNIFICANT THING about this Now, and Tom touched on it a few weeks ago.

Packet of Cadbury's Buttons to the person who guesses what it is.

I was wrong about it being Kelis by MILES. Kelis still, but by INCHES

Kelis = one of the most amazing debut singles ever since er, Britney.

I like more Speed Garage songs than Grime songs, but I haven't heard as many Grime songs (excl pop crossover viz Dizzee R, Lady Sov and co). Speed Garage Anthems = staple of 6th form common room radio. Unescapable.

No it didn't. Don't be silly. Stop harshing the buzz of GLORIOUS R&B/2-STEP/MAXPOP

At the time I *hated* All The Small Things but playing it back over in my head now it sounds great!

argh. I think I blocked out the very presence of Tom Jones/Sterophonics. That is the WORST. EVER.

Oh, stop fetishising Swedish pop all the time.
