Ned pointed out on ILM that there is a difference between 'I Must Sample Everything Now Immediately' and 'I am grateful to be able to try lots of things which I will get around to when I can but in my own sweet time thankyou'. (I sort of agree, but for me it's still economics / CD shelf space that moderates how I consume new things more than anything.)
I don't think its quite that cynical, but there's a grain of truth - I feel a shift in the methods and habits of music consumption is often a harder thing for a lot of pop writers to deal with than, say, a radical new genre or scene coming through.
& I think - even though I'm not much of a glutton, I actually listen to LESS new music because I only hear a track or two by an act rather than a whole CD by one - I resent the feeling that I'm being lectured to on what's the right or healthy way to take in music.
