Popfrenzy '98 continues in Now 40 with Billie, Fatboy Slim and DJ DAZ!!!! making their first appearances on a Now (the latter in the guise of BUS STOP). The Spice Girls slide towards their end but the pop world they left behind is thriving.

Now 39 was closely fought but "Never Ever" pulled ahead to win it - double All Saints for your consideration this time - with Pulp, Cornershop and the Spice Girls close behind among a number of high-scoring contenders.

Los Umbrellos were Al-Agami, Mai-Britt, and Grith, a black man and two white women, each attired in cowboy hat and not much else. I think they're from Denmark or somewhere, so they performed in English and in Spanish. "No Tengo Dinero" is a fake Mexican melody w/ a disco-funk rhythm and sound effects and token mariachi horns. Even better is "Obsession," a smooth disco version of Max Steiner's theme to "A Summer Place" with moaning and sighing and our love man Al-Agami talking seductively about obsession.
