Popfrenzy '98 continues in Now 40 with Billie, Fatboy Slim and DJ DAZ!!!! making their first appearances on a Now (the latter in the guise of BUS STOP). The Spice Girls slide towards their end but the pop world they left behind is thriving.

Now 39 was closely fought but "Never Ever" pulled ahead to win it - double All Saints for your consideration this time - with Pulp, Cornershop and the Spice Girls close behind among a number of high-scoring contenders.

A week ago the girl next to me was listening to an iPod on the bus, and holding at such an angle that I could see the song titles, and she went from 'Hollaback Girl' to 'Round Round' to...'Save Tonight'!!!

It's not a bad song really. And he gets bonus points for being related to Neneh.

Save Tonight is THE WORST song on here. It's even worse than the Mansun one.

I'm kind of torn between Massive Attack (sorry) or Billie here but I think it's be dishonest because the record I got (by miles) the most pleasure out of at the time was Teh Rockerfeller Skank.

Bonus points for Three Lions 98 for the irony in the Gazza line.

OMG! Is there time to rush out a sticker-album based single in time for the World Cup? It can be full of grebt rhymes on players names and updated every two years for the rest of eternity.

I don't think so! I like this, and 'Tragedy', a lot, but when they weren't GREAT they were generally SUPER-ANNOYING (same as Ace Of Base).

I don't usually like mixed-gender pop acts, it all feels a bit too much like CBBC presenters and hence Enforced Jollity.

Exactly the same with them: love 'Don't Stop Movin', everything else = NO.

I think I need my pop music to be a bit...sexier? I've never, ever liked children's TV, or Blue Peter, it's all 'fun' in the church camp sense rather than the actual fun sense.

No, I'm with you on S Club (and the Party!), Kat, although I think their kiddie-pop image is the reason they weren't ever floor-fillers the way Steps was. (If that was the case.)

Have we gone through TRAGEDY yet? Because if that doesn't win its poll, t'would be a, um, tragedy.

"into each life some sun must shine...somebody else must be getting mine..."

the most affecting lyric ever uttered by H, and that's REALLY saying something!
