Time for another poll? Go on - you can fit one more in I'm sure.

Today it is Bangday and the Friday Canon turns its attention to Young People's Dance Music. Specifically one of the YPDM acts to actually put a good run of singles together. From the rave wonder of "Charly" to the, well, yes, let's look at the Prodigy and their works...

You get FIVE picks on this one.

I am not actually a Early Prodigy Only Lover, despite what that ticky might suggest.

I am kind of amazed that I voted for Girls but I think I prefer it to ALL of the singles from Fat Of The Land.

In fact, Prodigy not best as singles band. Pretty much everything on Jiltered Generation is better than everything else. (hence my ticking mainly singles from around JG)

JG is a fantastic album, creative, full-on, way ahead of its time. Subsequent Prodigy only variations (albeit mainly good'uns) on those amazing themes. Never equalled it for ferocity, creativity, excitement.

Prodigy/Jonas Akerlund 'explanation' of Smack My Bitch Up song and video=JUST FUCK OFF

Also: interesting thing of Prodigy totally emerging from Rave, crossing over and then being dissed by 'proper' ravers as being pop, or more often indie-rave - (I dimply remember seeing a customised Prodigy t-shirt with someone like 'rave for indie wankers' sprayed on it at a party) Pop not actually being a big crime, indie-rave being 'BEYOND THE PALE', apparently. ;)

I found that INCREDIBLY hard to pick five from. I really RLY like Out of Space but One Love is actually better. Smack My Beeyatch up is actually one of my favourite songs EVER.

How many people here own three or more Prodge albums? (Holds up hand)
(Experience, Jilted, Fat o'Land, Outgunned/numbered)

yes, 'Out Of Space' will always be my favourite. And the 'Techno Underworld' on the remixes 12" is sometimes better than the orig.

and yes the 'Uplifting Vibes' mix is slightly reworked from the album version, as Howlett was wont to do (or vice-versa).

indeed, although the title track is prob. my least fave thing on it as i like 'Full Throttle' aka March Of The Mecha-Ducks, and the Jonny L remix of 'One Love' ends up dream trance-tastic.

Ooohh. *rushes to shelf, is now listening to Full Throttle*

Aaaaaaaaaah

Thanking you for the reminder. Actually, I think my order goes, Full Throttle, One Love, Jonny L remix. But they're all mighty in my eyes

Ha ha, I only ticked it because I thought no-one else would.

I do love it's kick though, more than 'Smack My Bitch Up'.

Some tickets on ver door, though, if you're swift.

Although, actually, it would be horrible to get all excited and then *not* be able to go if you didn't get tickets.

Obv. bands before TOTP's time doin't count.
