Some intriguing selections on the 25th Now album - still deep in 93 territory here - though I can only see one or two of these as real contenders. Something interesting here is how the reggae and ragga stuff has edged out the dance tracks largely into a fairly weedy selection in the middle of question 2. Elsewhere we have a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance by Kingmaker, a bumsex classic from Inner Circle, REM getting their pension in and East 17's frankly curious cover of West End Girls.
Only one of them can follow "No Limits" into the Pop And Poll Hall of Fame: it beat Sub Sub by two votes, with Take That and Shaggy behind. A remarkable and heart-warming rehabilitation - I wonder how many people hated Ver Limits back in the day (my conscience is clear on this one mind you). Ugly Kid Joe, Fab Macca and The Bluebells caught the biggest beatings, and while there was no real consensus on indie disco classics it's given me some bad ideas for Poptimism.
GO GO POLL RANGERS!

Date: 2006-02-20 11:05 pm (UTC)Actually, it's amazingly difficult to find it on P2P probably because nobody bought it. Polyhex Chartruns (http://www.polyhex.com/music/chartruns/chartruns.php) (Everyhit is out, it's the rule) says it made #42, so doubtlessly there are a few thousand copies of the single out there somewhere, but people don't tend to rip old CD singles from 1993. However, I happened to find a copy of Efua's album in a bargain bin for a dollar a few years back and snaffled it up immediately because "Somewhere" is totally brilliant. Like, nearly as good as Ace of Base. Possibly the only song I can think of whose verses consist entirely of spoken word asides stuck together! It definitely had some "under-chart" popularity. The rest of the album made no impression, predictably.
Also, WORST NOW EVER. I ticked five!
