I watched Popworld at a STUPID time like 3pm the other day! Yes, the Sunday morning treat thing was a big part of its appeal; I do miss Popworld with tea and toast, after a cheeky lie-in :(
That's appalling news, particularly since unless they can find someone as perfectly sarcastic and yet capable of unexpected enthusiasm to present it, it'll disappear down the back of the TV within weeks of getting new presenters. Damn.
Please explain for stupid foreigner (we don't get C4 over here). Is it the TV equivalent of Smash Hits folding?
Is it anything like that early '90s show with Terry... something (Northern) with the wide mouth? Or like that late '90s show with Paul the Man U fan and Donna something? (we do get the Beeb)
It's not like either of those, it's basically a show all about POP!!! with videos and interviews and live studio performances etc etc, but the presenters are utterly unafraid of taking the p1ss out of everyone on the programme. A typical interview snippet would be like when Simon told Gwen Stefani she was looking nice, and she said "Married!" and he said "Homo!". Or... aaargh I'm going to try and find a website about it.
OK - this: http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/t4/microsites/P/popworld/popworld_ashlee.html is what's been going on recently on Popworld... Simon and Lady Sov "saving the hoodie" was hilarious :)
A couple more articles for you if you're interested: http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/features/article338104.ece http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/features/story/0,11710,1226936,00.html MAN I'm going to miss Popworld :(
"I'm not, as people sometimes imagine, opposed to chart music. Busted, McFly ... I'm aware of some of the names. But that's mainly 'cos I watch that programme at the weekend, with the wry couple. I think they're quite entertaining. It's very knowing, but at the same time, it's a contrast to the kind of breathless stupidity of most of the competition."
I'd forgotten about Popworld to be honest. No point in showing it on a Saturday!! Damn!! I saw Simon once, in HMV on Oxford Street, on my way to a FAP. I also saw, ahem, Jo Guest in the same place at a different time, also on my way to a FAP. She had very broad shoulders.
