England trailing behind in 4th place... BREAKING NEWS swedes swizzed as England qualify!! What mad science is this?

However winning on points - as predicted last week- are Teh Knife with FOUR songs. My that's almost an entirely new album there. I suspect that the mysterious TARWATER may feature here next week. SEE YOU THEN

it was the first one that caught my eye in the gallery of new images. i have to use a new image to get the latest chart to appear, and the chart didn't regenerate til this morning, and i didn't want to wait any longer. Going back to the "standard" image you have to wait for it to regenerate and that took 24hrs last week.

Teh Knife = textbook definition of indie music which indie music fans like to think of as pop, shurely. Given it takes a sensitive acoustic cover of Heartbeats to get it into the pop charts it clearly ain't pop in its original form...

What I most like about BWO is how studied it is - in fact anything Barda has a hand in seems tailor made and perfect that way. They are the wimpier side of his stuff (even more so than Army of Lovers).

I don't think anyone would imagine Knife as pop. They're not "indie" as we compose it here either of course.

LJ's threading at 50 madness tho means someone needs to reformulate and repost a new question.

I think the pop vs indie thing is kind of played out really, we only stress it to tease Teh Lex (speaking for myself anyway), but the "what is pop" argument is more leggy.

It is very studied yes - this is what's interesting about Sweden, and attractive to some pop lovers, the way pop-as-style-and-ethos does seem to have a privileged place in its music culture, probably this is the real legacy of ABBA.

yr right of course. I don't want to pick on Mr The Lex but some of the stuff you post, Lex, seems like you've imported some indie qualities into your idea of pop. which is part of the reason i suppose i dragged dread r*ck*ism into it, cos it's an "imported PoV" thing. i don't 100% know what i mean by this tho.
