[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
Time for another heat and CRIKEY is this one bringing the hits. When I was typing out the poll I found myself wincing every other entry for the last 20 or so as I realised how many MONSTROUS STORMERS there were here; I think this one will probably be very tight.

[The last one has produced a final-qualifying-place tie, so I will do another post about that in a minute innit]

1. You get SIX TICKS, use them wisely.

2. The six top-polling songs go through to the 2006 final.

3. Pick up an extra tick for next round simply by telling us what the best thing you hadn't heard before but listened to au cause des comments here was. You don't have to tick it, just say what it was! Easy.

As there are bank holidays a-happening, this poll will stay open until LUNCHTIME WEDNESDAY 27th APRIL GMT.

[Also coming up for next week: TERRIBLE COMPILATIONS for EVERY OCCASION and a POLL ABOUT SUCH for every day the guvmint give us off werk, woohoo! So even if you can't remember 2006, you'll have something to tick if you're in front of a computer- they won't be time-sensitive so if you're not you can go back and do it later. ANYWAY, back to the job at hand...]

People with extra ticks this round: [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti, [livejournal.com profile] justfanoe, [livejournal.com profile] koganbot and [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus. Y'all are gonna need 'em.

[Poll #1732387]

I'd like to point out to the good people of [livejournal.com profile] poptimists that both above Mags Berger tracks (and in fact a large part of Pretty Scary Silver Fairy) were produced by Jukka Immonen, aka my favourite Finnish producer, aka Jenni Vartiainen's main producer + head producer on Anna Abreu's latest album!

(I <3 Samantha so much. Excellent video, as well!)

Also: OTM about Say It Right. One of my tracks of the decade, that one as well.

(Love that All Saints too, though I don't have a spare tick for it (woe); the whole album was really enjoyable, in fact.)

I apologise to you guys for nominating 90% of the indie that has found its was into this part of the alphabet.

I apologise to myself for making it a very difficult round to pick from.

(I only didn't tick SexyBack as I assume it will sail through...)

Well, THAT'S painful

(THANK GOD the poll cut off where it did, though; I realised yesterday that we were likely to get 3 x Ne-Yo in the same poll, as ALL THREE SINGLES start with an S, dear god.)

Just gonna say about My Love:

TUNE. OF THE. EFFIN. DECADE.

(...well, okay, so it splits that title with 1 Thing and Ellen Allien/Apparat's Do Not Break, for me, but POINT STILL STANDS.)

Most powerful first impression of the decade, hands down; I was so ridiculously blown away by it from the very first seconds the first time I heard it.

And a few underdog reps

Deceptively light touch, subtle, spine-tingling melody; plain EXQUISITE. That she makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up kills me every time.

So Amazin' = shamefully underrated album.

Genuinely affecting.

And OSHI how did I miss this on my first runthrough of the list D:

Good stuff all.

so many tunes of the decade

you were right. this is a ridiculous heat. I don't know which of timbaland's hits to vote for.

This is my tune of the decade. There's a real video but it's vevo but no matter because the live version is even better - weezy and robin complement each other so well - their timing is so tight and the line "put your hands up" is put in to much better use here.

one more fror me

I nommed this one too. I don't think you can get any gayer than a david morales club mix of mariah carey. This is one of the best.

Aly & AJ, a couple of evangelical teenage Christians, make a Christmas album, start off with a track declaring Christmas the greatest time of year, follow with a bunch of well-known Christmas tunes, "Silent Night," "I'll Be Home For Christmas," and then end in agony, feeling fake and phony, adrift and apart, can't pull off the cheer, not this year...

Kind of a gag, Margaret Berger singing hopeless teen love as if for a robot, my dad won't understand, and then somehow a shift into such beauty that this song is as poignant as any song of forbidden love ever.

"Basically, this is a song I wrote about a guy who cheated on me and shouldn't have because I write songs."

Basically, this is a song she wrote about a guy who cheated on her and shouldn't have because she writes songs.

Further proof that Scott Storch owned 2006 (but I'm out of ticks):

I think that "Should've Said No" is my favorite single off of the first Taylor Swift album. But alas, I'm out of ticks. I had 5 nominees in this pool!

Update: I strategically sacrificed my All American Rejects vote to increase the chance Taylor gets through.

Am very sad not to have a tick for Run It! as well -- half my fondness for it may stem from the amazing That Kid Chris remix (as used in this mix, and alas not on YouTube), but it also always felt like an Iconic 2006 Single. :/

what is this weird parallel universe where people think the fucking pipettes are better than 'My Love'???? I do not understand

From: [identity profile] braisedbywolves.livejournal.com
Well, I don't think that you can really paint the five people (at the moment) who voted for the Pipettes as Justin-haters, as they are also five of the six people who voted for SexyBack! More likely they don't want to give more than one tick to the same artist, in this parade of riches.

I was optimistically holding out hope that this rep wouldn't be needed, but it's looking shamefully glum so far, so:

C'MON, people! 3 friggin ticks?

Yeah this is a major wtf. I think people might just not see it's there? Because it might be the greatest song of the last decade.

It may be the greatest song of the decade, but that doesn't necessarily put it in the top ten this heat. I'm still shaking my head at not having ticks for "Shooter," "Run It," and "SexyBack." But yes, it is a lovely song.

I had fully 5 non-chart nominations in this poll. The 2 not yet repped for are "Move Along" and "Nothing In This World":

Weird thing is I've never really liked any other All American Rejects songs, but the melody on this one is great and it just keeps driving on and on.

Come on, you may hate Paris Hilton, but this is a really great pop song. I was just reflecting that the Paris album has held up shockingly well, and this is the best song. No idea what she was thinking with that bizarre and creepy music video though.
