It's Heat #3! It's early because I've got a lot of work to do but the other poll will stay open until midday.

1. You get SIX TICKS to dole out to your favourites, unless you have earnt an additional tick by simply filling in the text box at the end of the previous poll.

2. The six top-polling songs will go through to the 2006 final.

3. There is no rule #3.

The poll will stay open until lunchtime on THURSDAY 21st APRIL GMT. Or so. My lunchtime works out about 4pm GMT at the minute so basically 'when I get to it.'

Extra ticks in this round go to: [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti, [livejournal.com profile] hoshuteki, [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus, [livejournal.com profile] koganbot and [livejournal.com profile] redcommieapples

I can't listen to this song in public, because it makes me bawl EVERY SINGLE TIME. sit up all night thinking 'bout you with him/know it ain't right baby but I don't/don't think that I can let go

Beautiful, sparkling production, gorgeous close harmonies in the chorus, and argh Ne-Yo's delivery is absolutely heartrending.

I listened to this track close to fifty times in a few days after I first heard it -- amazing. Echoey drums, eerie guitars, and a chorus that floats around in the cold of space somewhere. (My love of it was such that I built an entire haunted-sounds mix around it, even.)

It's so odd - about half of these are instant OMG HUGE or at least "this is a valid big thing I have memory and opinions about" and the other half is "????", there is not much middle ground inbetween. Which is unusual. But not bad!

unexpected protest song revival!

I loved this too. The video is a nice progression from 'Rock DJ' as well.

I think Cassie should probably get her own poll - alas she hasn't had enough singles for a Canon but every single track on that first album is classic.

Yes, toughest heat so far. Cassie needs to learn about more letters of the alphabet, apparently :/

As I said about the previous Utada candidate, warm and generous. Sometimes she seems to spend more time on her production than the songs, but this is a very neat little melody.

Hope you like the riff; it's unrelenting.

Sally has possibly the least expressive singing voice in human history, which is perfect for the way the beauty here seems silk-screened onto the mattress.

This is on the end of the Tiefschwarz Fabric mix and I totally played it to death in 2006. It's got such a huge menacing build up (while still managing to sound a lot like Rex The Dog) then suddenly tips over the crest of the rollercoaster and starts splurging out sine curves all over the place. Totes amazing, and totes not on Youtube :(

From TV On The Radio's website:

We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.
