Right, sorry this was a week delayed- DDoS attacks and real life and all that.

You have SIX TICKS plus a potential BONUS TICKY in the offing for people willing to try new things. As it is now four grillion years since the last poll, I am afraid I am not well-practised enough in archaeology to find out who might deserve them from last time so we are starting with a clean slate on that front.

1. You get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll, unless you told us all your new favourite (and why) from the last heat. Put your new favourite in the box below and get an extra tick for the next heat - do it for five or more heats and get an extra nomination for 2006 (unless I think of something else to do in 2006).

2. The top five in each heat will go through to the next stage. Make sure you rep for your faves in the comments!

3. If you want to fill in the 'best song I only heard today' box later, change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

You have until Wednesday (13th) lunchtime GMT to vote.

Will rep properly later on but for now I can highly recommend the Jason Nevins remix of J-Lo and LL Cool J:

(Though I can't listen to it at work so this might be a sh1t quality version!)

By the way everyone, if you want to embed Youtube vids in the comments make sure you get the code that starts '<object>' and not '<iframe>', otherwise it won't show up properly. There should be an option at the bottom for 'use old embed code'.

If they have then great! It wasn't working the other day though.

This track was capable of distracting me from ANYTHING I WAS DOING anytime it came on, back the day. Oh god, so obsessed. <3

agreed. many happy memories of this at every live gig.

also: forms part of a narrative that continues in "The Weekenders" ("There was that whole weird thing with the horses...".

OK having watched the video I'm now glad I ticked this, as a couple of dreary records and I'd forgotten that the H.S. were genuinely awesome when they were awesome.

Is [livejournal.com profile] cis still OLJ? I think I got "Clockwork" via her. One of the hookiest hip hop tracks of the late nineties I think.

For you listening pleasure, or otherwise.

A number of things missing, which I'll solicit youtube for when I have more time.

One of the greatest dubstep classics of all time

OH GOD THAT BASS. It is one of the most perfect things ever put on this earth. ;_; (Nb: make sure to listen with proper bass reproduction, obviously!)

It's also bloody amazing quite beside that, so it's got something as well for those who don't have the gigantic weakness vs. proper sub that I do. :D

And a charty stuff roundup

In case the reason it doesn't have a bigger lead is because PEOPLE HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW AMAZING IT IS:

Also awesome:

And while I was always kinda eh on the original version of Check on It, I will never miss a chance to rep for the amazing, euphoric Junior Vasquez mix: (which youtube has blocked in my country since I bookmarked it, ARGH, but here's the link anyway)

This track is UTTERLY IMMENSE. Imagine if Vitalic got MORE BOSHING. I submitted it for the Pop Open in 2007 (http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/415469.html#cutid1) and it went down rather well (http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/413718.html).

And here is Actual Vitalic, with a guest vocalist who makes me cry:

My ticks:

From: [identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com
Xtina: I couldn't take my eyes off the video all year. This is in my top 3 Xtina singles.

Vitalic & Motor - see above

PCD & Snoop - hahaha this is totally when they finally convinced me of their awesomeness after 3 singles of 'meh', mostly down to Snoop's first mention of 'The Lead Pussycat' and reeling off the others' names like he's desperately trying to remember which one is CARMIT and how he can make something rhyme with CARMIT. Also they set the floor on fire! Well done everyone concerned.

Lil Chris - Ch-ch-ch-checking it out (woah-oh-oh-oh) <--- still grebt

J-Lo & LL Cool J - Control Myself <--- we have this on 12" somewhere! Blimey!

This has caused me to realise that it would be in my top 3 Xtina singles, but by default, in that it's Fighter, Beautiful, this and then that's it*. I'm surprised to find out that there was no Xtina canon (as I am probably wrong and there's millions that I just can't remember).

*Genie in a Bottle disqualified on the ground that anything that sounds better with The Strokes behind it can naff off.

I have been thinking for a while that if PATD had just shoved a lot more brass over their choruses (the thing about the best emo is that it's all chorus) they could have been EVEN BETTER (but when couldn't more brass help anyone).

ANYway, one more vote up for grabs for me, will listen to playlist later.

I'm here to rep for the Asian continent (a bit late with 17 voters done, it seems).

BLUE, like most of Utada's self-produced songs, is a warm and generous blanket of sound with her gorgeous gorgeous vocals, dancing around it, as the main point of interest.

Irresistible, or else the middle eight will destroy all defenses.

the fantastic Aaj Ki Raat is a beautiful pice of Moroder-influenced Bollywood from the Don soundtrack (and also popped up later in slumdog millionaire a few years later). Well worth a listen if you don't know

have we all forgotten Booty Luv?

Hey Moggy, your deadline is coming too fast for me to listen and think. In the future could you give us three or four days, like in the old days? Thanks.
