My own canonical version of the Macarena is as follows:

Outstretch right arm, palm down
Outstretch left arm, palm down
Turn over right hand palm up
Turn over left hand palm up
Touch left shoulder with right hand
Touch right shoulder with left hand (so arms are now crossed)
Touch right temple with right hand
Touch left temple with left hand
Touch left hip with right hand
Touch right hip with left hand
Move right hand to right hip
Move left hand to left hip
Wiggle about... (heeeeeeey Macarena)
...and JUMP 90 deg to the right
repeat till dead

Is this or is this not correct, O Poptimists? Do you have any variations, minor or major?

aaaaaaaaaaah, but the version of agadoo we learned at haven approx 3 months before it charted was enTIREly different to the one bl4ck l4ce did when they got on the telly...

also, i think you might be confusing it with superman which does explicitly have all the directions in...

I have never learned this dance, but I do know how to make the letters Y-M-C-A with my hands atop my head (and I do a reverse C so that people looking at me straight on will see a C rather than its mirror image). Also, with a refresher course I could probably remember the chicken noodle soup.

I prefer "Lambada" to "Macarena" as music, though from the evidence of the video, to dance the lambada takes actual ability. (Wikip claims that Kaoma stole "Lambada" from these people, and eventually had to pay up. In any event, Kaoma discofied it, improving it thereby.)

does the macarena not have a step forward step back in too?

also obv i do it the other way round, ie left arm first, being left handed...

As my girlfriend has just capably and adorably demonstrated for me, she includes a clap when she does the 90 degree jump.
