The summer of 1989 getting going and a very intriguing Now - two previous winners, a Bond theme, Fat Goth Bob, Soul II Soul and JIVE BUNNY!!!! battling for your kind affections and ticks. It's all going off in 20 different pop directions - which horse do you back?

Have pity on poor Erasure, meanwhile, who lose out in a second play-off as Yazz takes Now 13 by one vote. Now 14 was won at a canter by Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance", acclaimed in the comments box as one of the great achievements of the 20th centry. The Fine Young Cannibals, Inner City and Paula Abdul provided cursory resistance. Opprobrium descended largely on M.Ball and Simple Minds (who are back again for more this time).

To the votemobile - let's go!

Good to see Double Trouble and the Rebel MC made it onto a NOW! Though I don't recall "Just Keep Rockin'". The follow up "Street Tuff" was their anthem; I shall prolly start quoting the lyrics if that features on the next NOW!

I only realised the daftness of the line about dictation being enforced a couple of years ago; clearly secretarial schools were no cakewalk under the Soviets.

I also liked to think he was singing "People in Erasure on the brink of oppression".

I really hope Snooze II Snooze don't win this one.

I think it was used in an Argos advert. And if it wasn't it should have been.

Yeah, it's a bit rub.

But it's still one of the few tracks here that I own (De La, Neneh and "Back To Life" being the others). I was pretty much buying only stuff endorsed by Reynolds, Stubbs et al in MM by this point.

I ticked a scary amount of songs this time. but NO SHAME. although I did nearly tick Jive Bunny such is my love of the shonky megamix conceptola.

IIRC 'The Best Of Me' was Cliff's ONE HUNDREDTH single and much fuss was made about this at the time. I'd misheard them and thought they were saying it was actually he himself who was a hundred (years old).

I'd forgotten 'Jus Keep Rockin' as Rebel MC's first hit. Didn't it sample the bassline from 'The Liquidator'? Anyone YSI?

YSI of 'It Is Time To Get Funky' would also be nice as I haven't heard this since it was in the charts. L.R.S. = London Rhyme Syndicate?

The BYOBY Brown track is quite sweet, euphoric bombast - tho. I preferred 'On Our Own' from the Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack. A shame that Prince's 'Batdance' isn't on here as that was my other favourite song of the Summer.

'Manchild' really did creep me out. And it reminds me of reading 'The Trolltooth Wars' by Ian Livingston.

'License To Kill' is a good song if not a good Bond theme.

I ticked teh Jive Bunny, hooray! I hated the Soul II Soul song at the time but like it now, but TRANSVISION VAMP IN GETTING MUCH POPTIMIST LOVE SHOCKER! Thank goodness we're not on ILM here, we'd all be mocked, but hey, fuck it, TV were GREAT. "I Want Your Love" was better though.

I think this is one of the PSB's weakest singles whereas 'Lullaby' is one of The Cure's bestest.
