I did give this a try, Frank. Granted I listened to a YouTube clip on my phone, which probably didn't do it any favours. It was OK but a bit too blue collar for my taste, if you know what I mean. I prefer my cruising-the-highway songs to be more glossy: Boz Scaggs or Andrew Gold and stuff like that.

Have you tried Lucy Woodward's "Is This Hollywood?," which leaves out the highway, but has that California vibe? (Actually, has more of a teen rock-confessional vibe circa 2003, which is when it came out, but that vibe was to a large extent created in L.A. anyway.)
