24. YEAH YEAH YEAHS - "Hysteric"

Pop balladry from Poptimists' current favourite indie band.

23. KID SISTER - "Right Hand Hi"

Electro banger, the video for which is Vevo'ed (though maybe I can embed it, IDK, let's give it a shot eh)

22. FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE - "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)"

Hurrah! It's Mad Florence! Who I admit I was slightly better disposed to before her appearance on EVERY TRAILER EVER on channel 4. Lowest ranked song to get more than 4 votes. A handful of points for the Jamie T remix here.

21. SAINT ETIENNE - "Method Of Modern Love"

One of (I think) 3 singles on the list I actually bought for digital money. No video exists for this I think.

20. LITTLE BOOTS - "Remedy" (52 points)

Into the Top 20! I was a bit disappointed in her 2009: many of you weren't.

19. JORDIN SPARKS - "Battlefield" (53 points)

WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP. Embedding disabled though.

Now we're in the Top 20 it seems a good time to ask for your PREDICTIONS and GUESSES, before it gets too obvious :)

I am lousy at guessing and some of my favourites have already gone, but surely Taylor Swift will do well (You Belong With Me especially) and I think Zero by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will attract votes from a particularly wide constituency.

I'm interested in whether Bad Romance gained enough traction to make it a 2009 song, when it's been in the last week that I've noticed it blowing up (from "Oh hey I really like this" to "Oh hey I really love this but it's Everywhere All The Time".

I have no idea what would keep The Fear off No.1 here.

I'd guess at a Top 5 of be The Fear, I'm On A Boat, Bad Romance, You Belong With Me, something else - maybe in that order?

I am really annoyed to realize that 'The Loving Kind' isn't going to place even though Untouchable did - it's the second year in a row my favourite chart single of the year has been scuppered by coming out in January!

Definitely Bad Romance, I'd say, and I'd be surprised if there weren't some Rihanna somewhere up there but I'm not 100% sure which track it might be. Also, obv Taylor, obv COMBINATION PIZZA HUT AND TACO BELL, obv Lily.

Yeah, I think Combination On A Boat and Dizzee Allen w/ some Rihanna on the side.

Aw crap, the fifth is going to be Das Rasict, isn't it? And I was just enjoying having the Lex around again :)

If I Gotta Feeling gets anywhere near the top five when Boom Boom Pow ended up in the 85-61 group, I will be a very fucking sad panda indeed. Are people remembering the Two-thousand-and-late line and thinking it came out then?

I predict that no more of my nominations will appear in the list. Still, I've had two in the chart which seems dangerously mainstream.

I'm really, really hoping to see a showing from Royksopp & Robin, and also something from The Very Best, at least in the top 20. I was too busy to vote myself so hopefully some other kind soul will have read my mind!

Otherwise, I'll be amazed (like most of the other commenters) if Combination & Lily aren't in the Top 10.

Surely the Blah Blah Blahs are in fact singing 'It's Derek!'?

ha! well yes, the apparent disjunction did make me more interested in the song...

No-one has mentioned Shakira yet, but I'm assuming She Wolf will be top 10 certainly, if not top 5.

didn't The Fear do quite well in last years' poll though? or is everyone just voting for it again (having said that, I did)

Dudes who like the Kid Sister track above would do well to check out this album track of hers that suddenly goes BATSHIT at 0.40:

yeah I'm holding out for Shakira at no.1. What makes me sad is Nneka isn't going to be in the top 85 :(.

Yeah, what everybody said. If it hadn't split years, "The Fear" would win decisively, but now I think the contest is between "Bad Romance" and "You Belong With Me." And "Combination Pizza Butt/Taco Hell" comes in fourth. Not so sure about "Boat." I am confident that Jim Jones' "Na Na Nana Na Na" and Rihanna's "Photographs" aren't going to place, despite my voting for them.
