Coming to the end of the quirky, 2-3 person picks now...

30. LINDSTROM & CHRISTABELLE - "Baby Can't Stop"

The original mix of this terrific Jackson tribute is unavailable on YouTube it seems - lots of uploads for the (kind of yawny) Aeroplane mix instead. Luckily this blog dude has it to play.

29. PHOENIX - "1901"

Have to admit I still don't 'get' this lot - too bitty, no emotional bite - but some of you did and here they are.

28. MEDINA - "Kun For Mig"

Singles Jukebox alert! A chunk of the points were for "You And I", the English version of this, which sounds a lot more generic to me ftb "I'm turning to the rhythm of the night" etc. Not sure whether that makes it worse.

27. LADY GAGA - "Paparazzi"

Her again, with her er 'ballad' I guess. Still wasn't sold at this point.

26. KIG - "Head, Shoulders, Knees And Toez"

This is probably my favourite video of 2009!

25. JASON DERULO - "Whatcha Say"

This one passed me by I admit - seems OK though.

Into the Top 20 tomorrow!

woah jason derulo - I didn't realise people actually liked this. Granted the sample is pretty original, he just seems like a less charismatic Chris Brown.

Huzzah for L&C making it! :D I was worried for a while that I'd thrown away 25 points...

In a year that's been so good for male R&B (The-Dream, Jeremih, Maxwell, Robin Thicke, Lloyd, Ryan Leslie, Jamie Foxx), the idea that anyone could be interested in or enthused by that boring-ass Jason Derulo single is...confusing.

My ears always rise in joy when the sample introduces the DeRulo song - I like it way more there than in the original - but then I'm always taken aback when DeRulo himself enters, and I go, "Oh yeah, that one," disappointedly. This track and the Iyaz and the Jay Sean aren't heinous in themselves, but combined they've weighed us down in goo for months now.

Two of my top 20 appear here - KIG (I really hoped this would be higher!) and Paparazzi.

The Derulo single is a huge letdown for me because the sample comes from one of my favourite tracks of the decade, and DeRulo just doesn't seem to add anything to it.

Having now checked out the Phoenix I REALLY don't see what people are getting from this... but y'know, it was a dreadful year for indie.

That Lindstrom record is a bit of a puzzle as well - having just listened over the stereo rather than my ipod it makes a bit more sense, so perhaps I just need to spend more time with it.

Baby Can't Stop really gets good into the second half when a few new ideas are introduced e.g. the "pleeease belieeeve..." bit and subsequent lift-off.
