Another win for Robyn - about a point separating her from "Stay Fly" - so who's up against her this time?

It's Miranda Lambert, with "Kerosene". Miranda who? you ask - well, she's a #1 country act, she's 22, she's from Texas and her parents run an detective agency! I would like to wax lyrical about the virtues of "Kerosene" but I can't because (excitingly for me), I've not even heard it yet, beyond checking that the MP3 worked. It was nominated by Mr Frank Kogan and I'll be very interested to hear what you think of it. And what I think of it.

[Poll #651457]

There's Miranda. As ever, full members should watch for a supplementary post.

"Kerosene" is downright fantastic, one of my favourite singles of last year (to be accurate, my 42nd favourite). If Robyn is to be toppled, this is a brilliant record to do it, as it'll probably get pwned by whatever it goes up against next.

I like the harmonica, I think it's the same tune as on some Aerosmith song. I gave Robyn a score of one (I didn't want to say I gave Robyn one, as it sounded impolite).

I think this is where we have our changing of the guard.

Other fun facts about Miranda: supposedly she writes lyrics based on stories her parents told her of their clients in the detective biz. Also, several years ago she placed third in the Nashville Star contest; Nashville Star is the country equivalent of American Idol, which is the American equivalent of whatever-it-is.

Not really enamoured with this at all. Robyn's rolled over better records.

So, I finally heard "be mine" it's okay, not quite bombastic enough for my liking, maybe it's the tinny computer sound. I enjoyed the cheesy spoken bit. It'd get a 6.5 from me in a Focus Group. I saw the video on her website.

You are confusing me - you say earlier you only scored Robyn a 1.

Anyway, Kerosene is tremendous. I like her a lot. Is all her stuff this good, Frank?

It was an arbitary one, having not heard the song, and backing the underdog. Tactics.

For comparison purposes: the new Shakira song would be a 9, as it has a much better nonsensical spoken bit.

Have you heard Robyn's "Konichiwa Bitches"? It's all nonsensical spoken bits.

"Be Mine!" grows on one. It was number 16 on my ILM ballot, but would have been higher a week later. "Kerosene" was number 9. I wouldn't know how to say which is better, and I'm glad therefore I can't figure out how to vote.

Kerosene is actually Miranda's second album. The first album (http://www.neonbridge.com/Articles/2000-2002/CD%20Reviews/Miranda%20Lambert%20CD.htm), on indie label Heartfair, drew such raves as "This item is currently unavailable." No other tracks from Kerosene are as good (or as much of a throwdown stomp) as the title track, but the previous two singles, "Me and Charlie Talking" and "Bring Me Down," are nice little hearttugs.
