Album roundup
Oct. 31st, 2009 06:16 pmSo seeing as it's practically November now, let's talk POPTIMIST ESSENTIALS. Or in other words put: what albums will it be beneficial to have heard once year-end polling season rolls around again?
(I'm especially keen to hear about any albums that came out between abt midsummer and the end of September, because that time really struck me as a POP BLACK HOLE. Mind, that may well have been because I spent that time period buried up to my ears in obscurist electronic bobbins, rather than an actual lack of Big Albums...)

Date: 2009-10-31 07:30 pm (UTC)I've mentioned this a couple of times before but, after The-Dream, my album of the year is Le Disco - TeleMusic Remixed, which djhistory.com put out in the spring. It's a collection of remixes by today's hip young Nu Disco artistes of classic French library music from 1979. It was only a matter of time before some of the original tunes also emerged on CD - and lo and behold the Electunes label duly obliged a couple of weeks ago (http://www.juno.co.uk/products/Spatial-Disco/370288-01/)! If this counts as a new release, then this might in fact now be my LP of the year.
Other goodies (pop division):
Chipmunk - I Am (first half excellent, second half a bit patchy)
Holden - Fantomatisme
Toddla T - Skanky Skanky
The Bird and The Bee - Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future
More great space disco:
Sorceror - Neon Leon
Bernard Fevre - BDDC presents The Strange New World of...
Prins Thomas - Live at Robert Johnson
Faze Action - Stratus Energy
Singer-songwriter gubbins:
Kate Walsh - Light & Dark (two or three stunners, the rest just OK)
Taylor Swift - Fearless

Will go to bat for most of the Demi Lovato album Here We Go Again + "Behind Enemy Lines" rereleased on the deluxe version of her first album this year. Some of these albums need editors.
