Feeling the need to right some wrongs in the year just gone?

Please find enclosed 58 songs worthy of a Second Chance(TM), chosen by a rigorous process of statistical elimination, viz. I just let through everything that got at least seven votes in its heat. This was necessary because a lot of stuff in each heat tied at 7 votes and it was easier to just let them all in.

I'll be following along with Kat's new evil dictum and enforcing a limit of SIX ticks only, please. The top five will head into a little final, which I'll probably run on, oooh, Monday? Monday sounds good.

The (frankly TOO LONG) poll itself beneath the following GIGA-LJ-CUT:

[Poll #1474411]

Yikes.

EDIT: 49 of these 58 songs can be heard on Spotify with this handy-dandy playlist: http://open.spotify.com/user/meserach/playlist/1ga7mZnRs7Nox7CVrW2myp

Argh I ticked 11 on my first run-through :( Had to be cruel to Las Ketchup, Liberty Kiss, Christina Milian, Britney and Scooter.

Lasgo, Chemicals and Underworld all would be high in my best of the decade. Ticks!

In fact this list is almost better than the final list.

It was the anthem of the whole year 2002! Hard to believe it's not through already.

OK, I realize that no one who lives east of the western hemisphere is willing to listen to this, but it is the template for the '00s teen confessional, preceding Pink 2.0, Avril, Lucy, Hilary, Kelly 2.0, Skye, Ashlee, Lindsay, Aly & AJ, Veronicas (right, M2M were the first teenpop confessional to hit, in '99, but "Everywhere" sets the rock-pop production style that's still frequently being followed); and also its chorus is roaringly beautiful.

And Sticky f. Lady Stush are very worth listening to (quite lively and funny example of whatever genre it's an example of [British identification of this would be appreciated]: Undergrime?)

(Though I may end up abandoning this if "Jenny From The Block" turns out to be a serious contender for fifth place.)

Hey, it's not letting me vote for Michelle Branch TWO MORE TIMES to make sure that the *NSync/Nelly thing doesn't win!
