So close! But Wyclef beat Andrew WK by one vote (not mine!). However even if pop-metal is not represented in the finals it is clearly made an impact on all your hearts etc.

Back to the heats now, and this penultimate bunch of 2001 features up-and-coming young guns Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg and the Manic Street Preachers. It's heat #7!

It is what was known to the ancients as a 'Double A-side'. The meaning of these words are lost to us now, but we suspect it has something to do with Star Wars fighters.

Both. If Pulp deem them worthy to be released together then they must suffer judgement together. No voting for one or the other, only both at once (I think we covered this in one of the 2000 heats).

Hmm OK, I think "song by song" makes a lot more sense though! eg this Redman single was a double A-side with "Let's Get Dirty", which isn't being considered; and the two versions of J-Lo's "I'm Real" were considered separately.

But people nominated them separately - I can't be arsed looking for it now but if Pulp had been nommed separately then I would have included them separately.

Hrm, I don;t rlly approve of people nominating two songs in one, double A side or no. Can we nix double A-side collective noms in future?

I'll have a think about how to handle them for 2002. I doubt it'll end up being much of a problem in coming years as no-one really does double-As anymore.

EPs are still knocking about though, as are alBUMs in case you hadn't noticed. This has got to be a competition about single songs or tracks, or else anarchy rules.

In fairness I nominated the hotly debated Pulp track, more out of laziness than anything. Wasn't really thinking how it would be handled. I probably should have nominated them separately, but muh. Much as I like both, I suspect people are really voting for Sunrise here, anyway.

The bad version of "I'm Real" was only nominated due to a mistake by me and I'm haunted by the thought that this is what doomed the good "I'm Real"'s chances.
