Roundup of a few new and newish things
Aug. 22nd, 2009 03:20 pm1: As it doesn't seem this one's going to invade British shores (nor the Singles Jukebox) anytime soon, I feel compelled to post The Sounds' recent comeback single:
This has been all over our airwaves the last few months, and has slowly crept its way to being one of my favourite singles of the year. (Unfortunately it's by far the best thing on the album -- there's plenty of good and decent tracks, but nothing else with this one's scope, immediacy and undeniable hooks.)
And in case the band's official channel should happen to be uk-unfriendly, here's an audio-only fan upload.
More under the cuts:
2: Yes, it's true! Rex the Dog has got his remix on for the Dreijer family again, this time tackling Triangle Walks from the Fever Ray album. It's no Heartbeats rmx, mind, but it prob still counts as essential poptimist news (and also is definitely not bad!)
3: So the Apparat/Modeselektor teamup album isn't generally what I'd term 'poptimist-friendly' -- but with the lead single as a LARGE exception. Melodic line like slow-trickling honey set against a racing post-garage beat, and the synth wibbles are pure GOLD. Threatening to be one of my tunes of the year, really.
4: Finnish pop idol* Antti Tuisku, wot had a DANCE DIVA makeover back in '06 and consequently put out one of my favourite albums of the decade, is also back! And his new single is very much a cousin to New York's Tunturibiisi, ie AWESOME. Delicate, low-key groove, gorgeous melody.
*) as in literally, so to speak, being our far-back first-season Idols runner-up.
