We have a new number 1! The Black Eyed Peas knock JLS off the top with a deafening cry of 'Mazel Tov' - but what other terrifying new entries await us this week?

[Poll #1439002]

Reminder - you have until tomorrow lunchtime to vote in Heat #5 of 2001, in which there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth going on as to the fate of one Ms Jennifer Lopez...

Also stay tuned for some exciting Indie action later on this afternoon!

Kingston and Nelly/Flo are borderline non-ticks...i guess i feel like neither are playing to their strengths and it's all so bloody generic

you could say that about Lil Boots too i guess, but i [s]fancy her[/s] think the chorus is catchier so there

Subfocus: generous tick just because dnb (even dnb this absurd) in the top 40 is REFRESHING

To my surprise I find the Flo Rida uncommonly bearable, though that may not be Flo Rida's doing.

John Barrowman "I Made It Through The Rain": I thought this might be a parody owing to its utter lack of style, emotion, or any kind of distinction (the gag being to treat grandpa pop as dead people's music), but reading Wikipedia I see Barrowman is considered quite the inspiring figure. NO TICK.

Sean Kingston "Fire Burning": First Sean Kingston single that doesn't sound incurably weak, and this is not because he's suddenly grown muscles but because its relentless prettiness and the overdubs of beauty compensate for Sean's weakness. So RedOne's typical overbearing production isn't a problem, as it's exactly what Sean needs. TICK.

Little Boots "Remedy": Liked "New In Town" a lot, but this one sounds like stylization layered atop stylization. NO TICK.

Sub Focus "Rock It": Electro cuteness broken up by tiresome power chords. NO TICK.

Flo Rida f. Nelly Furtado "Jump": Nelly's harmonies tingle like quinine and Flo Rida's mediocre rapping is adequate, bouncing atop a tugboat horn. TICK.

You can't sing a brick that you laid

Nelly Furtado watchers should note that [livejournal.com profile] skyecaptain has posted excellently desperate commentary here and here.
