Here we go dudes!

  • You get TEN TICKS IN TOTAL over the three bits of the poll. But only the top five will go through to the next stage so choose wisely!

  • If you change your mind, you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • Ten ticks is the maximum but you may tick fewer if you find the list is uninspiring!

  • For your ticking pleasure, I've added the UK chart placing in brackets where applicable.

  • Explain your ticks (and your agonising decisions) in the comments!

  • [Poll #1411401]

"Candy" didn't hit big in the U.S., and I don't think Mandy ever got the ilX/Freaky Trigger attention that *NSync did, though historians may know better than I in that regard. I ticked 'em both.

What do you mean my "hit it big"? According to Wiki, it peaked at #41 on the Hot 100, yeah -- but I guarantee that if you say "You know who you are. Your love's as sweet as candy" in the general vicinity of any girl my age, 80% of them will very seriously reply, "I'll be forever yours. Love always, Mandy."

Yes, but how many of them will then say, "AND SO I JUST TICKED 'CANDY' ON HEAT ONE OF THE POPTIMISTS BEST SONGS OF 2000 POLL"? (But I do think "Candy" pulled in a good number of the North American votes here, though didn't get Chuck's or Mike's or Anthony's.)

Three quarters of the people who ticked "Candy" also ticked "Bye Bye Bye," whereas it doesn't hold the other way around. (But I'm not unhappy with our top five.)

It would have been my eleventh or twelfth tick, I think. But even if I'd ticked it I'd have unticked it if there was a chance of its beating "Big Pimpin'." But in general perhaps you could amend the rules to give people whose user names begin with "k" an extra five votes. ([livejournal.com profile] kellnasty seems to have good taste, and didn't use all ten of his/her ticks as it is.)

Oh, and Greg didn't vote for "Candy" either.

Eight North Americans voted for "Candy," seven Brits, and one Australian. I'm not quite compulsive enough to click on everyone's profile to see what percentage of the total number of voters is North American, what Brit, etc. (Well, I am compulsive enough, but I'm leaving for Connecticut in about 40 hours, so I need to pretend to prioritize my time between now and then.) But I know of 13 North Americans for sure, and I'm guessing there are not more than a couple of other North Americans among voters whose location I don't know, so I'd say that North America did well for "Candy," in comparison to the Brits. If the total vote for "Candy" had matched the North American percentage, it'd be right up there with "Big Pimpin'" fighting for the fifth spot. Of course, I prefer "Big Pimpin'," but I don't prefer "Country Grammar" or "Black Coffee" or "B.O.B."

I don't dislike "Candy" at all, it just got squeezed out by other stuff. I like other Mandy Moore stuff a lot better.
