It had to happen at some point: this week's number one is called 'Number One'. Well done there Tinchy.

[Poll #1390628]

Lower reaches watch: Alesha Dixon gets excited at 48; My Sharona jumps up to no 77 because of the Weetabix advert.

Also the shortest man ever to have a UK number one, I was told by the radio last night.

HahahahahaHAAA your icon just made me nearly fall off my chair with joy! She was such a brat on Friday, it was awesome to behold. I won't be seeing her movie though ;)

It was so weird - I think I actually came away from it liking her more, just because she's so nuts.

I don't like any of those songs, actually. Funny how 'Number One' became a number one record though XD

Not exactly up with the glorious highs of previous Keri/Timbaland tracks, but Return the Favour is still a shining diamond of goodness in comparison with that other rot.

I swear I will get you lot to listen to the old Tinchy youtubes I posted ages ago (http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/660550.html) if I have to keep linking to that post every month. 'Number One' fucking sucks, btw, and it's just depressing that he has to sound like that to get a No 1 when he can and has been so amazing.

'Return The Favor' is awesome, 'Official Girl' but with the vulnerability replaced by the suave flirting of 'Promiscuous'. Have grown to think 'Turnin' Me On' is even better though. Also they are both about half a year old now, jesus England, get your act together!

Deadmau5 - unremarkable but OK deep house track, the vocal is too annoyingly cut'n'pasted on though.

Others - DNW.

Tinchy Stryder f. N-Dubz "Number 1": Woman sneaks into his heart, the strings giving warm approbation, but voice and beats are a bit frantic, as if he hasn't quite found his feet (while getting swept off 'em, though not to the extent that he forgets to rank his gf's by number, apparently). TICK.

Marmaduke Duke "Rubber Lover": A dance beat sounds like it's puttering around the shed. Dull everyman's singing. I have no feel for this song's intentions or its world. NO TICK.

Prodigy "Warrior's Dance": Super high voice, then ear thumping bosh, and the squeaky voice sketches a tune. Claws at my eardrums, but my feet are unmoved. BORDERLINE NONTICK.

Keri Hilson f. Timbaland "Return The Favor": Synths imitate pan flutes, Keri and Timbo promise each other lollipops, Autotune provides sheen. Keri's voice is just Keri's voice. Track is nowhere near as pretty or witty as it should be (in fact, the words are not witty but stupid, "I'll be a bad girl, punish me" "I'll be a bad boy dance with me" being the song's idea of sparkling repartee), but a TICK.

Deadmau5 & Kaskade "I Remember": Beats are standard little blobs of echoey beauty, singer whispers her way to standard integrity and mystery, and I'll have to call on the Boney Joan Rule to justify my tolerating her even though I'd bared my teeth at the Bat For Lashes woman. BORDERLINE TICK.

Yeah, the comparison to 'Promiscuous' shouldn't do 'Return The Favor' any favours - Tim and Keri act like they're being as witty and sparkling as Tim and Nelly were on 'Promiscuous' (despite the sneaking suspicion that no one involved in that record actually knew what the word "promiscuous" meant), but the lyrics are just...nothing. 'Return The Favor' works despite that though, I think cuz it's such ear candy - love the transition to the 4x4 backbeat for the chorus.

"Surfin' Bird" at number 50: I assume there's a TV tie-in there, too.

Don't forget the Rivingtons! (And here.)

Possibly the episode of Family Guy based around it just reached UK shores.

My Sharona jumps up to no 77 because of the Weetabix advert.

That is truly one of the worst adverts I've ever seen.

this week's generous 6/10s: Tinchy/Dappy, Prodigy, Deadmau5.

i wonder if Dappy at #1 will unsettle N-Dubz, in turn providing fun drama for their 2nd LP lyrical themes...

but Keri & Tim tower over all with their 7 (even if it's just a bonus for having two mics in the video). such dizzy heights in these meh chart times.
