It's April 1st, and definitely after midday so no foolin'. Time to recap and recount your findings and favourites:

[Poll #1376103]

As ever, 'new' is open to interpretation - if it's new to you, then that's perfectly acceptable. Discussions/2009 top-10-so-far lists in the comments are encouraged!

(Apologies for missing this poll last month - my workload is becoming increasingly huge so I barely have time to check LJ during the day at the moment.)

I really disapprove of 'I'm On A Boat' and I rubbished it in a review whilst I was at PJ but it is kind of impossibly likeable.

I completely forgot CiCi & Enrique and Rex The Dog; clearly should both be on my list. Fail by me.

Favourite new thing is Nikki Awesome's "You Say (It Was Supposed to Be)," flimsy "Bizarre Love Triangle"-quoting girlie house (Canadian, I'm pretty sure).

Glad you actually found this...it's nice! There's some weird new wave quoting meme going around...here's Lady Sovereign's "So Human." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dYxu2QVlpk)

Thanks for this as well. I was expecting from the Lady Sov a sample of Human League's "Human" or MJ's "Human Nature" (both already sampled elsewhere), and first five seconds or so I thought it was George Michael's "Faith." I probably like this way more than "Love Cats," actually, a song I've always kind of loathed -- mainly for the vocals and the horns -- despite having got great use out of it as a dance track at weddings. I'd never deny it has a great beat, and Lady Sov uses it well.

Ooh, thanks for the Ce'cile heads up! Is this - finally - an actual, proper, official album release by her? On CD and everything?

Also, when is Lindstrøm & PT 2 out?

It's on itunes! (I assume there's a CD too.) It's all a bit confusing - apparently she released an album called Waiting last year (in...I guess the US and Jamaica?), and also an album called Bad Gyal (in Japan, and nothing to do with the Bad Gyal album from years ago, which I'm still not sure ever got released anywhere). Waiting and Bad Gyal (Japan) overlap significantly. Meanwhile, Worth It seems to be the title for the digital (UK?) release this year, and is Waiting with two bonus tracks.

L&PT is out...uh...I appear to have lost the press release :/ 26 May, sez ILX.

also, I think we should have a HATE thread at some point, b/c it seems to me that there have been significantly more abominations this year than usual.

To come on my livejournal, a longer list of my singles of the year, some of which will get on your and Lex's hate list.

Me and Lex is an unlikely alliance (not because Lex is an idiot but because I think our music taste tends to differ) but possibly. I think my list contains the most potential hatexcore but that is mostly because it is all boring wibbly indie and metal. D:

I think what we're looking for is the stuff so far beyond all civilised notions of quality that EVERYONE should be preparing to do battle against it. This thread (http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=41&threadid=71281#unread) should be a good starting point!

Maybe it should be a "who horrifies you most" poll. In a face-off between Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, La Roux, Asher Roth, Animal Collective, that hideous 3OH3 nonsense [you have seen this, right?], whoever those "Creature" dickheads are, and of course Dan Black, I...I just don't know. We're only in April. Surely that is TOO MANY ATROCITIES for one year? Oh yeah, and I forgot Florence & The Machine. *sobs for pop*

You know, Katy Perry is probably the LEAST annoying of that lot :o

Asher Roth makes me want to cry and cry and cry and cry. I hate that pop music has become the preserve of gossip blogs rather than OOH I DON'T KNOW, ACTUAL MUSIC. 'Omgz I luv Lady Gaga her style is awesome' makes me want to facepalm my way through the desk and I do actually quite like several of her songs.

3OH3 make Metro Station look really likeable. D:

I think if there's anything linking all these PEOPLE WHO NEED TO DIE, it's that they're all...making loud, obnoxious Statements About Art, and loudly, obnoxiously shoving their loud, obnoxious personalities to the forefront so you can't ignore what dickheads they are.

The Helen Keller line (repeated! twice! aaargh) in the 3oh3 song is definitely a nadir of life.

I'm not going to be around until late afternoon to hate on these...

And if I were doing tracks, not singles, Jenna "Soldier 4 Your Love," Cassie "Summer Charm," and Federation & TNT (Timberlee) "Heels" would be in my top ten (getting rid of the horrifying MC Lars), but you knew that already.

Whether "Beam Me Up Scotty" or "Hey There Ophelia" count as singles may be argued for or against, but I'm deciding that "something you release on your own to the Internet" counts as a single, esp. when the artist is little known.

'Heels' is a single! I mean, it has an (awesome) video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR4AKmBv3Mc) now. Also: you must hear her new track with Bounty Killer, 'Gangsta Style' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy9u1bxymfE). Ragtime piano!
