I think a news article on "holy crap these things are selling a lot!" is possibly the wrong place to look for vitriol. Comfort yourself with debating whether they've deliberately chosen photos that make Powter & Blunt look like they've been hit in the face by a 2x4, or possibly that they look like that all the time anyway.

i think i mainly just don't understand why people would voluntarily listen to these...awful singer-songwriters. i mean, i think i do understand, but i would like an explanation which doesn't lead to the inescapable conclusion that most people are boring cunts, as i don't think that's a particularly good perspective to have on humanity.

Madonna and Prince are nowhere near boring enough to be singer-songwriters. I saw a TV ad the other day for some acoustic comp that was full of these bastards. Also there is a HILARIOUS David Gray TV ad - "Can't think of anything to buy with your record tokens?", pretty much acknowledging that he is music for people who don't much like music. I hate them all.

There's a big advert for the new David Gray on the platform at Hammersmith station, with a quote from some newspaper:

"As a songwriter, David Gray has no peers."


which I completely misread the first time as :

"As a songwriter, David Gray has no penis."


I stand by my initial interpretation.

the thing is i have no problem with 'singer-songwriters'! i think they are a superior form to, say, Boys Wiv Guitars. but THESE singer-songwriters? a pox on them all.
