I very nearly voted 12 points for Early Winter, but decided it was a 2007 track. How things might have been different! I am surprised there were not more stray votes for Ladyhawke either, as I had no idea 'Back of the van' was a consensus pick. Vampire Weekend clearly lost out through lack of consensus, too.

Hmm, 19/41 of voters who failed to get anyone to vote for their top track seems a marker of a diverse year as much as the drop from third to fourth place. Though of course some of them are probably protest votes:)

Brandy 1st And Love

seriously slept on - this is presumably b/c she slipped the album out in mid-December but it is really excellent, especially this one

Kanye West Flashing Lights
Wiley If You're Going Out I'm Going Out Too

both overlooked in favour of huge-profile hits but I agree with these voters here - these are the superior songs to 'Love Lockdown' and 'Wearing My Rolex'

Wookie ft Ny Fallin Again

COME ON PEOPLE

Erykah Badu The Healer

yeah this is definitely a track of the year but it felt weird putting Erykah songs in my tracks list - New Amerykah is such a strong album qua album that removing its constituent parts seemed to do both them and it a disservice

Matias Aguayo Minimal

no me hace pumpin' pumpin' pumpin'!

Beyonce Halo

we have not seen the last of this one I feel

Perempay & Dee In The Air

COME ON PEOPLE

Sugababes About You Now

a 2007 single off a 2007 album? can we have ~some~ attention paid to dates please. I guess I eagerly await 'Freak Like Me' topping the 2010 list

Rihanna Rehab

this song is really underrated - easily the best Rihanna single release of the year (counting 'Don't Stop The Music' as 07). though the best new Rihanna product was definitely 'Haunted'.

Sway ft Stush F Ur X

feel v guilty that I didn't make room for this in my own ballot

Oasis Shock Of The Lightning

oh I see we have "prankster" votes in poptimists now!

Ciara High Price

if we do not get a video with a trillion-dollar budget for this there will be trouble

Radio Slave Grindhouse Tool

banging! my pick is the Dubfire remix

Red Hot Entertainment Junior Spesh

see, when carsmile mentioned a shock top 10 entrant, I assumed it would be this, and would have been happy to see it there...

Hood Headlinaz Rollin

tripped-out ecstasy rap ft. huge Robert Miles sample not to poptimists' taste then? :(

Ron Browz Pop Champagne

HOLY FUCK, YES, this song is addictive like nothing else. I prefer the rmx with Lil' Kim and Ludacris to the original - Ludacris TEARS THE BEAT UP. Am thinking of doing a hip-hop round-up post next week - if I do this will be in it. OHHHH! We pop champagne!

TI ft Justin Timberlake Dead And Gone

again, I eagerly await the trillion-dollar video, and request nakedness on the part of both artists

Bun B Underground Thang

yeah this is awesome - the Bun B album barely sets a foot wrong

Danity Kane Sucka For Love

I like the way the Danitys' blatantly equate physical gratification with emotions on this - their idea of a sensitive, lovelorn ballad is possibly even whorier than their idea of a whorepop banger

Mariah Carey Side Effects

really deserved more than 1pt, though tbh at this point I blame Mariah more than anyone else, because it takes a special sort of genius to eff up the promotion of an album like E=MC2

"Sugababes About You Now" a 2007 single off a 2007 album

this was me. my vote for this said something like, i guess this will be disqualified as a 2007 track, but i only got to like it this year somehow. so it was one of my singles of the year. what can you do.

well, what I did with the old songs I grew to love in 2008 was leave them off my 2008 list.

As I said last year, probably, and this year, I was stunned I was the only person to vote for it at the time. Baffling.

The only reason I knew about "Rollin'" was because you mentioned it somewhere, so I'm guessing most people here never got around to even finding out whether or not it was to their taste. (Or did it chart somewhere? If so, I didn't remember this event.)

I assume it charted nowhere, but I'm pretty sure I have mentioned it loads.

It's one of the consensus rap picks on ILM which is another reason I post there again.

Wow, didn't realize "Thank You" by Amy Diamond was 2008! Also can't believe I'm the only person to vote for "Is It You?" this year -- it was my number one. I love that I can immediately tell whose #1's some of those 12-pointers were.

From: [identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com
(I know that most people knew about "Is It You" -- myself included -- in 2007, but I thought "Step Up 2" qualified it as official-enough in 2008.)

From: [identity profile] gingermint.livejournal.com
if i were counting it, "Is It You?" would probably have been my #1 (or at least #2 - i certainly spent more time with it than with "sandcastle disco," but that's mostly a function of release dates.) not that i managed to get my votes in anyway...

Date: 2009-01-12 12:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com
my ballot:

1. Wiley - If You're Going Out I'm Going Too (1)
2. Little Boots - Stuck On Repeat (2)
3. Portishead - Machine Gun (3)
4. Midnight Juggernauts - Road To Recovery (4)
5. Das Pop - Fool For Love (Aeroplane Mix) (35)
6. Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor (36)
7. Surkin - Next Of Kin (21)
8. Goldfrapp - Happiness (19)
9. Alphabeat - Fascination (Bimbo Jones Mix) (23)
10. Estelle ft. Kanye West - American Boy (14)

different to what i finalised on my blog (final positions in brackets). daft to have included MJs, Das Pop and Surkin - no chance of any of them picking up votes from anyone else, but I only spent about 5 mins thinking about the top 10 I sent in.

I'm delighted that someone voted for "Running Back." Just a good solid tune on the sweet side of r&b, with a talent-show runner-up giving it her all.

If you didn't guess which of the 12pts was mine you get the IJ FAIL stamp.

My ballot:
12pts Weezer - 'Pork & Beans'

5pts MIA - 'Paper Planes'
4pts Urbnri - 'Young Free & Simple'
3pts Alphabeat - '10,000 Nights'
2pts Katy Perry - 'Hot N Cold' (*astounded* that no-one else voted for this)
1pt Ida Maria - 'I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked'
From: [identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com
Jay-Z - Roc Boys
Solange - I Decided (but the original, not the Freemasons mix)
Buraka Som Sistema ft. MIA et al - Sound Of Kuduro
Pink - So What
Friendly Fires - Paris (Aeroplane Remix ft. Au Revoir Simone)*
Hot Chip - Hold On
Oasis - Shock Of The Lightning
Ciara ft. Ludacris - High Price
Jay-Z - Jocking Jay-Z

Red Hot Entertainment - Junior Spesh
Flo Rida ft. will.i.am - In The Ayer
Little Jackie The World Should Revolve Around Me**

*actually, I only heard this for the first time in 2009, so it'll be on my candidates list for this year

**this was my #11, so very unlucky. I really wish I'd voted for it now.

From: [identity profile] ijgrieve.livejournal.com
Ladyhawke - 'My Delirium'
Vampire Weekend - 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa'
MGMT - 'Electric Feel'
Paul Heaton - 'God Bless Texas'
BWO - 'Lay Your Love On Me'
MGMT - 'Kids'
The Indelicates - 'America' *
The Saturdays - 'Up'
Marit Larsen - 'If A Song Could Get Me You'
The Hold Steady - 'Stay Positive'
Little Jackie - 'The World Should Revolve Around Me'
VV Brown - 'Crying Blood'

* This would've been in my Top 10 had I not restricted it to UK Chart Hits only
