The Top 50 tracks of 2008, as voted by YOU (well, 41 of you) starts counting down tomorrow. If you want to know the tracks that almost made it, here they are - 67 songs qualified* for the countdown, and these are the 17 that didn't get enough points, on a handy YouTube Playlist.

*out of 263 nominated. 2 more songs qualified but were featured in last year's countdown so I'll mention those in passing when we get to 'em. The remaining 194 will be listed in a very long post next weekend. To qualify a track needed votes from at least 2 people. Track order was determined by the following: 1. Most points. 2. Most voters. 3. Highest individual placing. If all three were equal the position was tied. And that ends the rubric.

I think I made a strong contribution to those 194 this year.

I'm delighted to see the awful Fleet Foxes have missed the top 50. And astonished that the equally awful 10,000 nights got any votes at all.

Annoyed that Two Doors Down didn't make it any higher...although I can't even remember if I voted for it myself. It was certainly one of the few indie-pop highlights of the year.

I voted for '10,000 Nights' (the first line alone gives it a place in my Pop Top 10 of the Year). Bit disappointed it didn't make Top 50 TBH.

Duffy is probably the most inexplicable one on the "just missed out" list. I can understand people thinking it's OK but one of the 10 best songs of the year?? What?

I'm actually kind of surprised anyone else voted for Miley's "Fly on the Wall"! Glad to see you found the official video, though, which is particularly weird at the end.

That'd be me, then. I didn't think anyone else would nominate it, either!

No surprise - I voted for it as well.

Brodinski & Yuksek remix of "10,000 Nights" actually is on youtube - but the audio quality is not that stellar, so i urge any and all schaffel enthusiasts to hunt it down elsewhere!

and i'll admit to being one of the "All Summer Long" voters (no shame in the game, as they say)

I'm too immoveable to do this!

Will we get a combined artists ranking (as I presume Scooter won't be the only act to miss out by vote splitting)?

Killers; Kid Rock; Alphabeat. Thought all of those would be in the Top 50.

My guess: The one we've more to hear from is Alphabeat, and the song is 'Fascination'.

I would lay money on "Boyfriend."

I didn't expect The Killers to do very well - it's a fairly weak track, both by their own high standards for singles, and also when compared with all other singles released in 2008.

'Spaceman', on the other hand, will probably make a lot of Top 50 lists this time next year (assuming they choose to release it as a single).

I am very upset that Cyndi Lauper is missing out but at the same time, pleasantly surprised that anyone else voted for that and 'Quicksand.' Although thank god Vampire Weekend haven't got into the top 50.

4 of my 10 votes are in that lot, if I remember correctly. Shame a few of them missed out on the proper list, but I guess Quicksand in particular was a bit under the radar for 08.

Three of my top ten made the 67-51 list (although they were the songs I ranked 7th, 8th and 10th). I expect 3 or 4 of my list to make the Top 50, and the remaining 3 or 4 to miss out altogether.
