AKA the Guardian has another pop at predicting the pop revival.

That said I like all the acts mentioned who I've actually heard. Perhaps this is the Real Thing!!!

Oh gods, F&TM! "Hit With A Kiss" is just dreadful! That "Dog Days" [?] one is better, but nothing to write home about. I can't figure out their appeal, and I really don't get why she keeps getting compared to Kate Bush.

I hadn't actually come across Dan Black, so thank you for that. Just took a gander at YouTube and "Yours" and, yeah, boring. Reminds me of my brother's obsession with also-tedious funk band Kings X about 10 years ago...

Dan Black's other "signature" "tune" is a cover of Biggie's 'Hypnotize' in which he basically sings (very badly) the lyrics while an 'Umbrella' instrumental plays tinnily in the background. It is the most repulsive piece of music I have EVER HEARD. It is even worse with the video!

WHY DID I LOOK?? *sobs*

Now I want to punch him repeatedly in his badly-haircut, cardigan-and-and-keffiyah-wearing face!

The keffiyah really is some kind of "OK now you're just deliberately goading me" tipping point. My fists are just itching thinking about him.

Heh, look at us bonding over the desire to do GBH to Dan Black. That's the seasonal spirit for you!

So, er, I'm free on Sunday, can we go stamp on his fingers?

I am free any time to stamp on Dan Black's fingers or head or indeed any part of him. Indeed if the opportunity arises I am probably going to just drop whatever I'm doing and take advantage.

Yar, they were, altho I'd more say funk-rock, cos I think they were a bit more rock than metal, but hey, horses for courses.

They were in Raw plenty IIRC, but Raw had a pretty wide remit for rock musics. You'd find people raving about Marillion, Prince, NIN, Cradle of Filth, RHCP, Black Crowes, Christian Death and The Exploited on the same page! I rather liked that.

(I had several letters published in Raw when I was wee, which made me quite pleased at the time. The one I remember best was slagging off Glen Benton from Deicide.)
