not the most awe-inspiring of lists rly. but then they haven't picked such dreadful stuff that it's to be slagged particularly, beyond generic blahblahpitchforkindieblahblah...

NOEZ I was hoping to be able to ignore this (having already come across it by mistake on ILM).

Should I post the Vibe singles of '08 on Poptimists, if we're going to be posting other publications' lists? It's a damn sight better than...this indie shit and it contains loads more ideas for people to use in their lists. I can even do a zip file with loads of 08 tracks in, if people want it.

yes plz to zip file. Having followed the best-of-list thread on ILM it looks as if you've had a different year from everybody else in the blogosphere - and a much better year at that!

It's been really annoying to see everyone paying so much attention to all these indie-centric lists - I don't see why they should be treated as a barometer of anything other than indie, which I don't have any interest in, but they seem to get dragged into the critical centre in a way the Vibe and Fact lists don't.

(and what's most annoying is seeing all the music I've loved getting pushed aside for endless reams of grey indie mopeyness - Tom was talking about entryism earlier but it doesn't seem to have worked on the Pfork list.)

It's a meh list but it's kind of been a meh year overall. Yes there may be some subgenres that have produced good stuff, but not on a broader scale. I'm struggling to produce a worthy #1 for my list (which probably falls into the same ballpark as P4k (minus anything pointlessly experimental and anything drearily strummy - mostly).

I am glad someone else likes 'Roc Boys'! It is one of my most played youtubes this year I think.

Also worthy of note

Fact Magazine Top 100 tracks (http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1604&Itemid=27&limit=1&limitstart=0) - ignore the indie and there are loads of excellent tracks in here which haven't appeared anywhere else, because everywhere else has terrible indie taste. Contains links to listen to them, too. I am down with at least three quarters of this list, which is a fantastic ratio. Their top 20 mixes of 2008 list also looks pretty ace.

very surprised by Pfork's #1 track choice, partly because i think it's one of H&LA's weaker dance tracks (altho their own remix is much much better).

i like everything in their top 10 except Deerhunter (and the Cut Copy is kinda meh) which i don't think i've heard so their list is more of less fine by me.

This list only shares 1 song in common with the top 10 I just submitted to poptimist orgafun. That's because I forgot about "Single Ladies" (actually, might not have made the top 10 anyways, would have been close.)
