Here's the top 50 of the year, worked out by a complicated formula involving the number of votes each song got and its percentage of the total vote for that week. Er, complicated in that I just timesed them together and multiplied by 100? Anyway I've kept all the figures in there (votes / percentage / score) so you can make your own minds up.

Now, from this list one would get the false impression that the charts have been good this year. Still surprised that "What's It Gonna Be" and "L.E.S. Artistes" didn't do better. Delighted that Ashlee is top five.

But the first four would be disqualified from my P&J/Idolator ballots.

Disqualified not by P&J and Idolator, but by me, for my having had the chance to vote for them in years past. Actually, "Outta My Head" was out in America in late '07 too, but late enough that I've decided it's still eligible.

I have been meaning to do a huge splurge of voting as I've got completely off the pace.

More good records than I remembered here, though it's a bit miserable how the first four are all from ages ago...

I assume you haven't taken the AYIPS tracks into account? There have been some stellar flops this year (my picks would be Addictive & T2, Lil' Mama, Cassie, Kat DeLuna, Cherish, Alicia Keys, The Count & Sinden & Kid Sister, Tinchy Stryder, DJ Q & MC Bonez).

Inexplicably missing:

Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight
Flo Rida ft. Will I Am - In The Ayer
Flo Rida ft. T-Pain - Low [wtf poptimists why the hate for Flo Rida?! 'Low' is unequestionably one of the hugest tracks of the year]
Chris Brown - With You
Delinquent ft. Kcat - My Destiny
Mary J Blige - Just Fine
Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction

And what about Chris Brown's "Forever" (unless I'm missing it!) - massive track and I'd have thought it's raveyness would have pressed a few Poptimist buttons.

Gah, for some reason I thought I'd seen it up there...somehow naff crap like September and Booty Luv is more to poptimists' taste. Awful.

(I do prefer 'With You' but 'Forever' should not be overlooked either!)

In terms of raw percentages, these songs from AYIPS have done well enough to match the lowest in the list above:

1. Annie: I Know Your Girlfriend Hates Me (81.8%)
2. Vampire Weekend: A Punk (64.7%)
3. Lil' Mama Featuring Chris Brown/T-Pain: Shawty Get Loose (60.0%)
4. Cassie: Is It You (53.6%)
5. Hot Chip: One Pure Thought (50.0%)
6. Girls Aloud: Theme to St Trinians (47.6%)
7. Jennifer Lopez: Hold It, Don't Drop It (47.1%)
8. Nas Featuring Keri Hilson: Hero (47.1%)
9. Portishead: Machine Gun (46.4%)
10. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds: Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! (44.8%)

But voting nubmbers are much lower so it's not quite comparable. T2 only got 41.4%

Bit disappointing that the top 4 songs are all from previous years - suggests a weak year but that's really not the case. Surprised Estelle isn't higher tho.

You should have if it scored high enough, though I don't recall it breaking 11 (or was there a week when it hit 15?), so it probably wouldn't quite make it.

How do I go back and change my vote on one of them. When I go to the poll it just shows me the red bars (useless) and not the ticky boxes (useful).

Alas. MIA belatedly gets her tick - that solidifies her 3rd spot ahead of Jay-Z, hopefully.
