The Poptimists Advent Calendar Days 18 and 19

As karmic payback for my dissing Nizlopi earlier the wretched thing has been in my brain all day. I am feeling drowsy and not in the least enthusiastic about my looming and last - for now - Wobs social engagement (work party part III).

The 18th door hides a pop princess in the blush of innocent youth. The 19th has a more grimly apt festive pick.



Britney Spears - "My Only Wish (This Year)"

"I have been so good this year!" squeaks La Britney on this 99-era wobtune, her Mouseketeer roots showing. Teenypop Christmas songs are rarely that good but in the right mood this one delights me.



The Cheeky Girls - "Have A Cheeky Christmas"

The Cheekies' finest hour, their rictus grin pop absolutely appropriate to the forced-fun atmosphere of the Christmas party. "Santa Claus is comeeng! Feeling up your stockeeng!" they sing, entertainers to the bitter and skeletal end.
