Hello everyone, I'm doing some impromptu research.

[Poll #1264707]

As I said above, it's not a test so don't get too neurotic about it, I'm just curious. Feel free to discuss The State Of Pop In 2008 further in the comments, if you want. Linking to YouTube videos and that is very much encouraged; get on a soapbox.

Five tracks off the top of my head:

Rihanna "Disturbia"
Cassie "Activate"
Ashlee Simpson "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)"
Ashlee Simpson "Little Miss Obsessive"
Heidi Montag "No More"

Five albums not off the top of my head:

Danity Kane Welcome To The Dollhouse
Ashlee Simpson Bittersweet World
María Daniela Y Su Sonido Lasser Juventud En Éxtasis
Vanessa Hudgens Identified
Um, er, let's see, a number 5? A really don't know if there's a real winner here, but the following might benefit if I decide to institute the All Albums Are EPs Rule: Jamey Johnson, Willie Nelson, Cansei De Ser Sexy, Lil Mama, Santogold, Lil Wayne, Mariah Carey, Ashton Shepherd, Jordan Pruitt, Cyndi Lauper, Sonya Kitchell. And the following might benefit if we decide to institute the All Albums Have Just One Song We Pay Attention To Rule: Annie. Dolly Parton and Eyrkah Badu aren't clicking for me, though there's some OK stuff. Solange I've still not made my mind up about, like her personality and range but think there's an underlying blahness to her voice, despite all the energy and adventurousness. I'd be curious to hear the Michelle Williams even though her voice competes in lameness with Vanessa Hudgens' (who may well make my top ten, so go figure). Have yet to hear any of the other albums that Lex lists.

Called Permission To Fly - voice as fetching as ever and the alb has about the same good-songs-vs.-not-so-good-songs as last year's, except this time the record company decided to make the worst song the single. Here's the YouTube of a good track.

Thanks.

Gah, I see it's been out for nearly a MONTH. Amazon.com is so RUBBISH at keeping me informed of records I actually want to know about.

ALSO Frank - you loved 'Falling' by Sadie Ama right? I discovered tonight - I had no idea before - that one of the funky house producers Crazy Cousinz was responsible for the Wifey riddim, ie the music for 'Falling' (and he's still only 18 now!). And then leaving the studio I randomly bumped into Sadie's sister Shola having a fag outside, and got so excited that I was all like OMG I LISTENED TO YOUR MUSIC IN SCHOOL which I then realised was the wrong thing to say (though she was v nice about it!)

Reminds me of Marie Dressler in Dinner At Eight; finally she says to an enthusiastic fan, "Don't tell me that your grandma saw me on the stage when she was a little girl."
