i'm glad mccain's advisors didn't try and make him too hep (see gordon brown talking about the artic monkeys last year), two ABBA though? we don't actually believe that these rly are their favourite records, do we?

Assuming it is all cynical, I think McCain's dudes have been cleverer here - a bunch of records you can imagine him liking, plus the big WTF ABBA thing.

Obama comes across not just as a little bit too tasteful but as someone who's picking a few "on-message" songs.

I would also vote for Frank.

yeah I thought I'd posted this last night but obv not - as awesome as 'Ready Or Not' repping is, putting that 'Yes We Can' thing in there is COMPLETELY LAME in every way.

it's long been known that McCain's favourite band is Abba! I don't know where I first heard it but it was ages and ages ago.

"City Of Blinding Lights" and "Yes We Can" makes me question the guy's judgment. He'd been pretty good up 'til then, though, and "Gimme Shelter" is an intriguing choice ("War, children, it's just a shot away"). Of course, "Search and Destroy" makes the same point without disassociating itself from the bloodlust. But as for that Kogan fellow, not only do I question the acumen of any politician who'd put "Search And Destroy" on such a public list, but I question the sartorial sense of anyone who'd choose Slade.

(Both McCain's and Obama's lists are better than I'd expected, to tell you the truth.)

He is actually a HUGE ABBA fan:

it turns out this wasn't the first time McCain had revealed his inner Fernando. In South Carolina last October, McCain confided in reporters on his campaign bus and told them that if he's elected ABBA would be the background music in "elevators all over the White House."

"ABBA was the largest selling (recording act ever)," he protested, in comments quoted by the Austin American Statesman.

Granted, he was a little defensive: "Nobody likes them, but they sold more records than anybody in the history of the world, including The Beatles. But everybody hates them. You’re a no-class guy if you like ABBA. Why does everybody go see ‘Mamma Mia?’ Hypocrisy! Rank hypocrisy! I’m not embarassed to say I like ABBA

I also remember him saying "I Had a Dream" was his favorite ABBA song so I'm surprised not to see it here. Maybe his advisors persuaded him that having THREE songs by ABBA on a top ten list would just look too doolally. McCain's ABBA devotion is really the only think I like about him.
