last year's below - completely appalling start, post Bouncy/Shakira Shakira it suddenly went on an unbroken run of amazing for months and months, only to be undone on the final stretch by Xmas-related gloop.

There are some astonishingly good runs of #1s but yes this is a good sustained one, and I'd count the McFly for 31 weeks of high quality.

531-537 is a 32-week run BUT requires you to like "Hello" by Lionel Richie.

If we're including McFly - which erm I'm not - may as well get B&S in there to make 34 weeks. 'Beautiful Liar' may only be worth 7/10 but that is still Any Good At All.

I like 'Hello'! I think. But I don't like Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and I've never heard that Duran Duran song.

I've never liked them! Don't think I have any particular hate for them - maybe this is cuz I never have to hear them - but you know what I'm like with bellowy, stompy songs...

Other amazing runs:
639-645 (21 weeks)
679-685 (32 weeks! most of them thanks to 'I Will Always Love You' though which I heart but no one else will)

erm and then incredibly there is no notably long run of awesome No 1s until the aforementioned 'Umbrella' to 'Bleeding Love' reign.

The Aswad's a bit of a weak spot there - not bad exactly but not stellar either. Good run though, certainly no stinkers (and I'd stretch it back to T'Pau at 600 which has period charm at least)

it's been a bad year for both - that window of hope when we had Estelle, Wiley, H Two O and Flo Rida at the top seems increasingly anomalous - but I think this is the first week that the top 5 has been so BEREFT of acceptability.

Anyway yeah, until eight weeks ago you won easily. Though 'American Boy' is still the best from both lists.
