Has there been any single track so far this year which you could see topping a critic's poll? (Pazz & Jop/NME/Idolator/Pitchfork/Poptimists EOY Poll/you name it).

There's not been any world-squashing summer hit like "Umbrella", but there's not been anything as crit-pleasing as "All My Friends" either. Unless I'm missing something really obvious.

(OK, I can see Ting Tings winning the NME poll)

Are we all still waiting...? (Obviously, I have my own favourites, and excellent favourites they are. But while I can see a few of them placing in EOY polls, I couldn't see any of them WINNING one.)

'Sandcastle Disco' is the best track on the Solange album (which on one listen is slightly underwhelming, but that's definitely not a set-in-stone judgment yet). The Annie album is really mediocre but 'Songs Remind Me Of You' is terrific - not single of the year by any means though. 'Turn The Lights Off' is still my track of the year, but who knows when that album will even come out, let alone whether 'Turn The Lights Off' will be on it. 'Best Best' is OK but I don't think Missy's really running things any more. TI, yes, v eagerly anticipating Paper Trail. Will Britney and Beyoncé even get round to releasing albums this year? When all is said and done, the Cassie mystery apart, I think Ciara's sewn it up (again!) with 'High Price', which is as worthy a single of the year as you're going to get.

As Cassie herself would say, there's still a long way to go. My top 4 right now are "Disturbia" and "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" and "Early Winter" and "Little Miss Obsessive," I'm not sure in what order, but any one of those would get beaten by "Turn The Lights Off," not to mention by "See You Again" (which I won't vote for because I voted for it last year, but it got the bulk of its airplay this year). Quite likely my number one single is something I haven't heard yet.

Damn, that sucks (re: Annie and Solange). I'm pretty sure Cassie's album will come out in September. If I remember correctly, none of those other release dates (2007?, Feb. 2008, May 2008) came from Cassie herself. This one is, and she's updating her MySpace pretty frequently to talk about it.

I'm not sure where Media Take Out is getting its information, but it claims that Ciara moved her release date back to November so she could go head-to-head with Beyonce. I don't really believe this. But yes, "High Price" is a great contender; I need to hear it blaring in the car before I can decide where it goes.

Here's Rodney Jerkins on the Beyonce album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPgwCopm1IU

Listened to Solange again; definitely not as INTERESTING as the leaked tracks indicated, which would be a good thing except a lot of it has its heart set a bit too much on being authentic retro 60s soul (as opposed to 'I Decided' which was just a fun pastiche). Gets oddly electronic and a bit mental towards the end though.

I can't decide whether I want all the leaked tracks so far to end up on the Cassie album or not...if they do it'll be, like, I have this album already! But if they don't this means that some incredible tracks will have gotten lost down the back of the sofa.

I luv Ciara but she should not go head-to-head with Beyoncé.
