June saw 19 top-seventyfive entries that didn't reach the Fab Forty (so far), not counting Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline", which also saw 11 weeks in 1971. It's all movie and tv tieins plus sixth singles this month apparently, so not as many proper videos to watch as normal. Still, please have your say as to the worth of these tracks...

[Poll #1223913]

Lil' Mama (55.6%) leads the May poll right in front of Hot Chip (50%), with The Feeling in third (33.3%). DISQUALIFICATION ROUNDUP (because I forgot to do it last month): Flo Rida's "Elevator", FOB's "Beat It", "No Air" obv, Kylie's "In My Arms" and Lil' Wayne's "Lollipop" (all April); Maddy's "Give It 2 Me" and Mariah's "Bye Bye (both May).

Next month, along with the July crop, we'll have the HALFTIME STANDINGS, with cheers and gnashings undoubtedly.

cheers for doing this AM, shame to only tick 4 songs after such efforts.

June/July's been pretty weak all round, "singles" wise (although the four songs I ticked here I like a lot).

Mind you, I just went back and ticked a load of April AYIPS tracks that I failed to tick first time round.

The Fergie song is pretty wretched. Sex And The City cash-in sample = YIKES.

NERD will almost certainly climb - it's very good indeed!

I'd like to thank The Subways and The Potbelleez for that trip back to 1995.

How did I miss that Kat DeLuna one? Must pay more attention, this is great, much better than, ooo, 95% records that have charted this year.

Guillemots - I like them anyway, although doubt they're most people here's cup of tea. They should release Kriss Kross - it's bonkers.

Surprised to see Steve Earle here - although apparently this was in a Magners advert.

Kalomoira - one of the best Eurovision entries this year, if they'd bothered to put the album on iTunes I suspect we would have had more - this is one of the only ones that was available. Much better than the winner, anyway.

Rihanna - not as mind-blowingly great as most of the singles from this album, but still tick-worthy.

Tigerstyle - Banghra / Michael Jackson sampling stuff (as seen in Britain's got talent). Not as good as it could be, marginal non-tick.

Jennifer Hudson - average song, great voice, plus she's fab.

Others - blah. Fergie - you need more quality control.

Have you heard J-Hud's new single proper, 'Spotlight'? It's much much better than this (I agree she's terrific).

Just had a listen - it's much better than this one. Are there any plans to promote her here that you know of?

Disappointed that neither Kat DeLuna nor Jesse McCartney made the top 40! Especially considering the endless dross which has. Talked about both on Poptimists before, Kat D especially is a terrific summer anthem.

Gah, it isn't much good on the undercard either. I ticked three, and for two of those (Tigerstyle and Little Man Tate) I was being generous. I don't like Little Man Tate's aggressive normality, but at least it's aggressive; Tigerstyle did as cloddily obvious a mashup as one can, undercutting the intensity of both its sources, but the singing was thrilling enough to prevail. I wanted to tick Kat Deluna 'cause I loved her last year, but she didn't quite have a song. Neither did Kalomoira, and she's not enough of a singer, either, even though I love the style. (Or loved the style as it was done twenty years ago.)

By now I ought to know better than to be disappointed by NERD, but I was.

"Disturbia" on the other hand is a jolt of quinine or something, braces me whenever I hear it, is every bit as good as "Umbrella" and "Lemme Get That" and "Pon De Replay."
