Record crop again in May – 21 lowhitters, not including Crowded House's "Fall at Your Feet" which somehow got one week at #75 seventeen years after its first chart run (well even this week's #1 is three chartyears old innit?).

But then, it was a month of five Saturdays.

You probably know the drill by now; check out the vids if you want, ponder a bit, and tick what you deem tickworthy. Hurrah for depth!

[Poll #1203958]

*NOTE: OK this is confusing. Wikipedia sez this is the song from the musical Wicked, but who in the hell this "Kristen" is is still unresolved. To make up for the lack of the actual-single version, here's a Tony Awards performance, sung by one Idina Menzel along with a confusingly named Kristin.

Regarding April, The Lex can rejoice a bit about current scores for once – CASSIE is in the lead, alone above 50%, though not far ahead of Portishead, Kylie and Jordin & Chris (REËNTERING at 74 this week btw).

Pretty sure Madge and Mariah will be top 40 proper imminently so will talk about them then. They had better get more ticks then as well!

Lil' Mama - probably my favourite proper single of the year so far if we don't count leaked Cassie demos and random Trina album tracks. WHAT IT DO (DO), TEDDY TO THE PIZZAIN / YOU ALREADY KNOW (KNOW), TELL 'EM WHAT THEY MIZZAIN

Hot Chip - I like the chorus on this. Really haven't gone back to their album much though. Where are the remixes??

Botherd about the rest. I saw about 10 minutes of a documentary called Chanelle: Wannabe Pop Star on some far-flung digital channel last week and it all seemed a bit sad, clearly no one involved in the project gave a shit and just wanted the entire episode to be over and done with as soon as possible, except Chanelle who did give a shit, except she didn't know what to give a shit about and kept moaning that it was too hard. Which would be beside the point except the song is a tenth-tier version of the Ashley Alexandra Dupré demos which themselves were third-tier versions of Paris Hilton's 'Turn It Up'.

Yeah, when listening to the Chanelle I kept saying to myself "I want this to be good but it's not."

The Sandi Thom track was surprisingly viable, just couldn't hold its force into the chorus so I reluctantly decided it wasn't a tick. It's better than some of the tracks people are ticking. (I've nothing against people getting old, but the Neil Diamond track has no emotional power, maybe because Neil's not adapting his singing style to what his voice is capable of but is acting as if he could still whip out the drama and feeling of "Solitary Man.")

I think I prefer the version of "Shawty Get Loose" that doesn't have Chris, but I inadvertently deleted it from my computer!
