::: Poptimist Alert! Poptimist Alert! ::

As you all may know, the artwork at Poptimism Venue Cross Kings has gone from "I never thought I would miss the gurning orange fish" to "Absolutely Awful"! Proud Poptimists cannot let this continue. Therefore, we are proposing a poster extravaganza, to paper the walls with our favourite pop icons, both past and present, casting their benevolent and shexay eyes over the beautiful dancefloor action. So - this is a call for action! Bring all your pop posters and we promise to put them up with our extensive supplies of Blu-Tack - let's make the venue awesome, not snoresome! Speaking for myself - I can bring you a super-sized KAT-TUN poster, some Daleks taking over the earth, little Marc Almond in a black polo neck... and what else?? Much much more!!

If you might be stuck for posters, but have access to a printer, you can create amazing huge PDF rasterised prints via the Sect of Homokaasu R4sterb4t0r :D Yay!

:: End Poptimist Alert! End Poptimist Alert! :::

And if you're not coming -- why not tell us about your favourite posters? What was, or is, the longest running poster up on your walls? When, if ever, are you too old for posters? Who was the first pop star you put up on your wall? I myself, remember making extensive Pulp collages from pictures in Smash Hits. My favourite picture was Jarvis in a yellow Morris Minor. Now I am older, and wondering if it's inappropriate for a 26yr old PROFESSIONAL WOMAN to put up a poster of a Japanese boy-band on her wall. Is it? Let's talk pop posters! And - do they still make poster mags?

PS - I'll personally donate a prize on the night to anyone who can get me a better icon of the Reynolds Girls by close of play GMT today! Why is it so hard to find Reynolds Girls related pictures? Ch, internet, honestly. This xposted to my own journal a bit btw so apols for spam, crossover foax.

I have a Buffy poster! I'll bring that.

Erm, what else? The only other thing I can think of that I have in the house is a Salad On Tour poster. Ah, "Motorbike To Heaven", what a great song that is [/nindie].

At university I put up a free poster of a cosmic space vision that came with the vinyl edition of UF Orb. An uncouth rugby player threw an egg at it :(

I also had a gigantic promo poster of Saint Etienne's "Avenue", a Pixies poster, some ones that came free with SELECT and a big poster of Jim Morrison obviously.

My first three posters ever were PJ and Duncan and M People and Jack from Neighbours. Not representative.

The first poster I ever put up was a giant A-ha poster which I'd collected tokens for off cereal packets. If only I still had it, it would be ideal for tomorrow!

I'm not coming tomorrow sadly, but I do have a lovely poster from my years of adolescence of the Spice Girls in their bikinis. Oh, and a great one of the camouflaged Destiny's Child ladies from the 'Survivor' video.

I've never had any posters, apart from the ones that come with cds (e.g. first Britney album, uh, maybe Splender?), but thanks for reminding me about "Independent Love Song"!

My longest running poster on my Aberystwyth wall(s) is one for MOBILE DOGWASH LIVE, which I went to for my 19th birthday. It is neon green and says 'MOBILE DOGWASH LIVE' in big letters on it and that is about it.

The longest-running poster on my wall at my parents' house is, I believe, a printed-out picture of Rociel from Angel Sanctuary which has been there since I was 14/15, assuming my mother hasn't removed it yet.

Rock Sound gives away giant posters every month, it is great. :D Sadly they are all of Green Day or similar people I would not want on my wall (actually if you like the idea of Gerard Way staring out at you I believe they do a lot of that as well) but I feel what with that and the fact they often include hilarious stickers with the magazine and had a (horribly degrading for everyone and actually made me quite angry but nevermind) 'Hardcore Hotties' pullout with Candace from Walls of Jericho judging various Men Of Hardcore makes me suspect that they are in fact being run by an old Smash Hits editing team. Except Smash Hits would probably have drawn the line of good taste at the whole Hardcore Hotties embarassment.

My earliest (and longest running) posters were giant ones of The Smiths 'The Queen is Dead' and Prince's Lovesexy. Alongside them my walls were covered with pictures I'd ripped out of Q, NME, Record Mirror, Sky and countless other magazines. There was never an inch of wall left showing.
