Being a monomaniac, I only read the Ashlee-related bits, but what's clear here is that Santi didn't feel on her own ground in that room, writing for Ashlee. (Btw, was Ashlee in the room? Maybe Ashlee wouldn't have felt on home ground, either. On the Ashlee Simpson Show Ashlee was sitting in what could have been a suburban rec room, probably Shanks's studio, with John Shanks, a lovable bear of a man, he would be holding a guitar and trying out licks or teasing her and inducing her to do Britney parodies, she would sing or not sing and be holding a writing pad, there'd be a tape player in the background. Didn't look at all like a silver-tray setup. I wonder if the silver trays at the "Outta My Head" congregation were there for Timbo.) Anyway, I empathize with Santi's feeling. The next question that she could have been asked is why Ashlee gets all these people to create better material for her than they often create for others.

Actually, Katie seems rather sweet. Maybe that's the problem; she really doesn't think she's any big deal, or all that great, so she brings the music down to what she thinks is representative of her. (Does that make sense? That to be better would make her someone she didn't believe in?)

Mmm, I thought that from that interview. They seem like charming people; there's nothing I have against them personally, their music is just utterly horrible to my ears.
