What is the worst record you have ever bought?

In the pub on Friday night we had a - really quite long - discussion about this album, which I paid good money for at age 14 (on audiocassette). I think it is probably the worst record I've ever bought, though I admit I haven't listened to it in almost 20 years.

i have bought plenty of CDs on a mix of trust, rule of 3, madness and misguided 'on spec' fun.

the ones that you then give away instantly - do they count?

or are we on: the ones you listen to, stick with going 'no it IS good' and then admit you were barking up wrong tree.

construction for the modern idiot (and possibly never loved elvis) might well fit this category although i paid money for NEITHER i assure you (unlike hup which i paid and is STILL GREAT)

Yeah I personally was thinking of that special combination of it being really bad and you making a big effort to like it - possibly even trying to rationalise and justify it.

With Roger W I had probably under ten albums in all at the time so I really really was determined to find SOMETHING to enjoy in it and played it a great deal. But in fact it was complete shite AND it had a cover which even at 14 I knew I shouldn't be proud of owning.

I put a LOT of effort into Wing's "London Town" at around the same time and was mistaken then too but it's a much MUCH better record than Hitchhiking.

i listened to a lot of quite goth stuff at college that i wouldn't listen to a LOT these days. but if i did re-listen i would still like them enough. (swans/nephilim sort of noise.)

i never bought TFC - i was given a copy by a rabid PF fan at college. we did a swap - i gave him a copy of unknown pleasures! however RK i have no excuse
