No pop trumps today - back next week.

In the meantime while Lex is still on holiday here's more fuel to the racism debate: Ethiopian chap in making electro-rock music shocker. Apparently this is too startling a prospect for major labels to deal with blah blah blah...

Except on listening to the dude's video it sounds pretty r'n'b to me! The Neptunes clearly still think it's 2003 at any rate...

well i think that it's true to a point. i mean, the fact that the video for 'freetime' (ace song btw) didn't have one shot of him and instead followed the travails of a guy via a long camera shot of his below-the-calves legs (which were covered in pants and sneakers so you had no hint of said guy's race) was really the first sign that the major label execs were confuzzled by how exactly to market the guy

Well there's clearly more going on here than 'racism' given that the article cites black listeners complaining that they don't like that style of music...though I don't think it's terribly well written. I think articles which are going to lead to accusations of racism need to be very clear and concise and not just rely on innuendo and implications.

Kenna produced something on the new Ashlee album though I haven't seen credits so I don't know what. (Btw, heard the alb once and this is the first Ashlee album that's got dull spots, but also has greatness - the two singles - and is also very goofy.)
