Dave M: Yeah, I couldn't help but think of Kelis myself...and she's certainly not Kelis. I think it works for her, though, in a smaller-scale sort of way.

Frank K: Yeah, I've had this for a month. Isn't "You bettah ask somebody" a Lil Mama sample? If it's not it could be. I like the slow skanking rhythm and the way Teyana works around it in the verse, but the layered-on chorus just sounds like generic r&b.

Funny, listening again (5th or so listen) with the generic R&B comment in mind...I don't really hear it. If anything I do agree that it's Kelis-lite as Jimmy says, but (1) I don't think of Kelis-anything as particularly "generic" and (2) there needs to be more Kelis-lite! Better than so many other lite brands. (She isn't up there with Lil' Mama yet, but I guess I can give her more than one song...)

Good video, cheap and cheerful! Big hair + singing in a low register is bound to = Kelis comparisons. But as Dave says, I think that's a good thing!

The only thing I'm not sure about is the 'Google-me-bebbe' hook, it sounds kinda clumsy. I'm glad she didn't try and fit 'Myspace' in there.
