Hitz from Finland vol. 6

poptimistsThis is actually vols 6 and 7, but since I was too busy/distracted to get the first one out in a timely manner (and the two are connected anyway), I may as well combine them.
This time (pt 1): Finland's allegedly most popular domestic band among university students! (At least a few years ago this was the case.)
Stella are still a bit of a second-tier band on the Finnish pop star heaven, although their second album did go gold. (Actually, so did their first album recently, in an accumulative after-the-fact kind of way.) They're a pretty standard pop-rock band, but they have some ridiculously pretty melodies occasionally -- point in case, the single that got them into radio rotation, from their 2004 debut:
And just for the sake of completism, have a video from their second album (although the song is so not as good as the un-coughed-up-by-youtube lead single):
They're currently promoting their upcoming third album, and if anyone is curious they can hear the lead single Korkokengät (which is currently getting a lot of airplay) at their MySpace.
Their biggest, or at least most lasting hit has been this one from the debut album, though, which (SEGUE!) has entirely to do with this:
That would be Katri Ylander, runner-up in our second season of Idols, doing what would become her iconic cover in the semi-finals. Which smoothly brings us to pt 2 of our This Time, namely CURRENT HITS BY IDOLS ALUMNI:
Katri is on her second album at this point, and this is her latest (absolutely lovely) single from it:
(And here's her doing it live on the telly. PLS NOTE NAME IN SONGWRITING CREDITS HAHAHA. I said you'd see it again, didn't I?)
And here's runner-up Anna Abreu from the third and most recent Idols season with the second (awesome) single from her debut album -- this is slightly less current as she's already on her third single, but this one's still getting airplay as well, so:
Not so incidentally, Teemu Brunila was also responsible for her debut single, which was a massive hit. That boy cert gets around innit!
