Have any non-Anglophone pop or rock writers ever had their work translated?

And for Poptimists in non-Anglophone countries, what is pop criticism like there?

(The PEEL POLL SEQUEL will be posted tomorrow so clear yr diaries)

I'm portuguese. I guess pop criticism only differs when the subject is portuguese-music.

Pop criticism in the non-Anglophone countries in which I have lived or otherwise lurked (that would be Mexico, Spain, Italy and Colombia) is earnest and very wordy, as I remember it. The Italians liked to ponder whether things were transgressive (Jane's Addiction got them well excited on that front), and there was a really good show on some anarchist radio station in Milan that had rock critics yabbering away, usually on the Death of Rock (which they considered a good thing). It was on that show I first heard grunge (Tad, Mudhoney), so boo! to that, but also Tonight I'm Gonna Dream Again by the Chiffons, a big favourite of mine ever since. Italians are really into lyrics (there was a big market for books translating the lyrics of the holy Eurorock trinity of The Cure/The Floyd/Depeche Mode, plus of course Bob Bloody Marley). The Spanish were similar, with perhaps a bigger leaning towards the theatrical (Nina Hagen and all that). Not much in the way of funny... (Off the point slightly, but I've had stuff syndicated and flogged to Mexico, Austria and I think Japan, although I think I've only actually been sent the foreign version once).
