Lancelot Link And The Evolution Revolution - "Sha La La Love You" - today's submitter (who has AFAIK never taken part in Poptimists Orgafun before, so a warm welcome to them!) says: "Todays so called song writers could learn a lot from the investigative
monkey and his hippie pals! Perfect bubblegum pop!"

YOUTUBE CONTENT: The Evolution Revolution in action (NOT playing "Sha La La Love You" though so don't vote based on this.

Welcome to new poster, as yet unidentified. These are fun, like League Of Pop, in that tracks are stretching me this way and that.

Lancelot Link & The Evolution Revolution "Sha La La Love You" (seems to be uncertainty as to how many "Las" belong in the title) - Classic-era poppy folk-rock that's actually sweet pop. You guys don't know how much I love this style. Neither do I. How much do I love this style? Well, when given zip and smiles from, say, the Cowsills, not to mention Tommy Roe (notice how the guitar here copies Roe's patented Buddy Holly subdued Diddley imitation) it can be pretty good. Hmmm. Seems to be missing something. Melody? Passion? Do love the guitar, and you can dance to this. And it's not offensive in its niceness. I'd give it about a 5.3, which I'm rounding up 'cause it's from a new person. 6

Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp:

Link worked for APE (Agency to Prevent Evil), engaged in an ongoing conflict with the evil organization CHUMP (Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan). CHUMP's monocled chief, Baron von Butcher, inevitably hatched the latest plan to endanger the world. The Baron's network of international fiends included his shifty chauffeur Creto, mad scientist Dr. Strangemind (with an exaggerated Bela Lugosi dialect), imperious Dragon Woman, drowsy Wang Fu, singing sheik Ali Assa Seen and the cultured Duchess.

I like this, I'd like it more if it was in Spanish. 7.

Thank you, mystery provider of this song. Ever since reading Cooper and Smay's Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth anthology, I've wanted to hear some Lancelot Link. And this doesn't disappoint. The group's "theme tune" in that youtube vid merits a 6 at best, but "Sha la la Love You" is right up there with the best of The Archies (whose sound this song strongly resembles) and Salt Water Taffy. Immaculate placement of grunts and handclaps and la la la's earns the chimps a 9.
