More bassline! This may or may not be the new T2 single - radio playlists and the very fact of an official video say yes, his PR says no - but whichever way, it's completely brilliant, EVEN BETTER than 'Heartbroken'. Is that a tinge of mariachi I hear in those weird Spanish guitars? And, like, a schaffel interlude! "I'm gonna get to your heart, I'll take a shot in the dark, I never miss the mark - you're GONNA BE MINE, ALL MINE!" (bleep bleep bloop wobble) AMAZING.
MC-based bassline continues apace too: this probably won't be as chart-bothering as 'Gonna Be Mine' but I'm definitely feeling it. This is 'Gangreen' by sMoKio & DB. (If you didn't catch it last year, I also fully recommend their 'Is You' track, which - hurrah! - is based around a chipmunk sample of SWV's 'Weak', one of my all-time favourite 90s r&b cuts. You can download the mp3 at that youtube link.
Here is a grime track about indie chicken, 'Junior Spesh' by Red Hot Entertainment:
And here, to soothe your synapses after all those shouty boys, is the ever-magnificent Erykah Badu and her excellent new video. See how many covers you recognise! Her new album is entitled Nu AmErykah (!!!) and she is currently wandering around the place looking like this: there is no possible way this will be anything other than a masterpiece. (Even better than 'Honey' is 'The Healer' - no video yet but it's this gorgeous, snaky, spooky, late-night thing, Erykah crooning "hip-hop...is bigger than religion, hip-hop...is bigger than the government, hip-hop...this one is for Dilla, hip-hop...)

Date: 2008-02-02 02:13 pm (UTC)Haha when did they do this track?? It would be so great if they did it after the indie chicken radio show but I guess it's probably been knocking about for a while! I have no idea if I will play this tonight, it's REALLY shouty, but I MIGHT...!!
Have a napkin in case of MESS

Date: 2008-02-02 03:26 pm (UTC)'Gonna Be Mine' production works for me (prefer both the bass and the vocals here to 'Heartbroken') except the terrible synth brass - don't get why producers keep using this when actual sampled trumpet would sound better.
'Junior Spesh' is pretty hilarious - can't say anything more about it right now
heard the Erykah on 1Xtra last week and can't knock that production - totally what I want R&B to sound like - sunny, infectious and RICH altho i guess it comes off kinda retro. also A+++++++ video.
