KEEP BOND CYBERGOTH

Who would YOU choose to do the theme song to a film called "Quantum Of Solace"?

[identity profile] bengraham.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a Muse song to me.

[identity profile] ninebelow.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, it is.

[identity profile] boyofbadgers.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha, yes!

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps make it absolutely minimal somehow?

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What does that title even mean.

[identity profile] dubdobdee.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
it means the smallest possible particle of emotional relief

morbid angel could record it as an answer record to "abominations of desolation"

[identity profile] blue-russian.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
If you read the plot summary of the eponymous story, it's almost exactly the opposite. No punching of Russians (ahem :) at all, just him at a dinner party where he is bored by non-spies! (really)

More seriously, although I think the Muse guess was right, i can also imagine an Eno track of the same name

I think Casino Royale's adherence to the Fleming original should be considered anomalous, rather than a guide to future performance.

[identity profile] ms-bracken.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
When you put it like that I realise I'm actually really pumped for this movie.

[identity profile] justfanoe.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still a really awful movie title though.

[identity profile] friend-of-tofu.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My ex-husband believed Morbid Angel's "Blessed Are The Sick" was the best album ever made. He would probably be in ecstasy at the thought of this.

Sadly, Muse was the best suggestion so I have little to add. Evanessence would probably do it to, except they'd probably object to being type-cast as a "soundtracks band".

[identity profile] ms-bracken.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Avenged Sevenfold, and it sounds suspiciously like a cover of Jonathan Coulton's "Mandelbrot Set".

[identity profile] braisedbywolves.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
As per our previous conversation, I really need to get a lot of Mr Coulton's output, don't I? Where should I start?

[identity profile] ms-bracken.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd start with "Madelbrot Set", as it's my favourite - that, with "Skullcrusher Mountain" and "Ikea" should be enough to make a decision about how much you like his stuff! I can't imagine you not doing, though.

[identity profile] infov0re.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Off the top of my head, something like:

Linkin Park featuring Britney Spears

because you need nu-metal guitars, sampled strings and kung-fu movie noises (for the inevitable high-tech plot), and Britney-circa-Blackout (for the emotional blankness/suffering). Ten years ago, I'd have swapped Crystal Method for Linkin Park in this mashup.

I'd kill for The Knife to do it, though.

"Die Another Day" aside, Bond themes have become completely marginalized in pop culture. I don't know who did the theme song to Casino Royale, Tommorow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, or Goldeneye, nor have I heard the songs.

I know all those off the top of my head:

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Whathisface from Soundgarden, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, Tina Turner.

I remember the Garbage one now that you mention it.

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, that was terrible showing off on my part. But I honestly think the Goldeneye-onwards ones have been fairly well-publicised!

[identity profile] justfanoe.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
In Britain maybe, but not in America. I'm not a Bond expert by any means, but if I think of Bond themes, I can think of classic 60's ones ("Goldfinger", et al), "Live and Let Die", "View to a Kill" (only Bond theme to hit #1 in America) and "Die Another Day", and no others.

[identity profile] lockedintheatti.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally think Goldeneye is absolutely right up there with the 60s classics - Tina puts in a really understated performance for the first couple of verses before absolutely belting it towards the end, all backed by really beautiful strings. The structure is great too, it doesn't really have a chorus as such, it just builds and builds. If you don't know it I think it's well worth tracking down. And all written by Bono, remarkably enough.

All of the other 90s ones I can entirely take or leave.

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Mike Patton.

See also: At The Drive In, if such a thing still existed. However, Muse ring true to my expectations.

I can't actually think of a Bond theme I like at all, with the possible exceptions of Garbage and Sheryl Crowe.

[identity profile] infov0re.livejournal.com 2008-01-25 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Mike Patton and Britney duet? I like your ideas, anyhow. They are APPROPRIATE.

Mike Patton and Britney duet

This must happen, like, NOW.

wait, is it going to be a Bond tribute to Robert Jordan?
