Is anyone surprised to learn that La Bush and "Running Up That Hill" won the Now 6 poll? With 100% approval? Leaving poor old Eurythmics trailing behind, and Jan Hammer even further behind? No, I thought not. This one might be a little more open - or maybe not. Wooden spoon goes to MARILLION who found not one defender and are banished forever to [livejournal.com profile] sukrat town. The scientific community remain divided on when Queen got rubbish though the weight of opinion suggests a little after 1986: watch future polls for further developments.

Genre segregation in full swing here and I've included the major scientific advance of "NONE OF THE ABOVE" votes at the end of each section of the poll-busting 33 songs, which should make the percentages a little clearer. Look out for a sudden acknowledgement of hip-hop, for the first appearances of SAW, A-Ha and the PSB, for Amazulu's posterity-baiting song title, for parentheses a go-go. And UB40 feature AGAIN.

On, boldly into 1986 we go!

this must have been the summer between years of 6th form. i have a distinct memory of a tape of recent top 40s with a lot of these on, and playing it a lot on my walkman. it had camouflage on! and amityville, and bang zoom (my fave song at the time tho i was no fan of the new-fangled hippety-hop) and COR! owen paul.

he was an AWFULLY BIG marine

In addition to usual Bowie/Queen suspects (but yeah, the Weight of Opinion may have it abt right on the latter) I own:

- Bananarama
- Real Roxanne
- Mr Ocean (I think)
- Stan Ridgway (if the Cassette Boy remix counts! haha)

Favourite slow dance in theory = "Ooo Baby Baby" by Smokey R

I remember sloe dancingment but not what track was playing at the time. Unless I wasn't doing the slow dancing and then it would be things like True by Spandex Bollox, Careless Wispa by Sir George of Michael, and Agadoo by Black Lace*

My favourite slow dancey songs are old soul ones, e.g. Al Green, and things like Unfinished Sympathy.

Is it a fact...

fave slow dance song: maybe 'Crazy For You' by Madonna although the chances of me ever actually dancing to anything below 90bpm are MICRONOMICAL

possibly my favourite Bucks Fizz track. ok not my ACTUAL favourite, it's my favourite little played BF track. oddly i recall it as being a lot earlier on than everything else here - perhaps some sort of rockist self-censorship is making me believe i couldn't have really liked a BF track that much in the crucial 16-18 yr old phase :-/
